I did gymnastics for five years. One afternoon, I got to practice a little late. I was eating a Snickers bar because I missed lunch. One of the trainers came up to me and grabbed the Snickers out of my hands, and started screaming at me that "eating like a pig must have been more important to me than practicing". Everyone stopped what they were doing. We were all terrified of her because this was an everyday occurence. If we got scared on the parallel bars, we got screamed at until we cried, and then we got screamed at for being childish. I was fucking nine! I loved doing gymnastics and ballet, but the coaches were really abusive. No child deserves to he treated like that. NOBODY deserves to be treated like that.

It breaks my heart to hear being shamed for body. She is a gorgeous beyond talented athlete.

Am so happy she found a coach that not only coached her but recognized the internal anger from being put down in the past and worked with her. So many would have walked away.

I'm glad she found a coach that didn't use body-shaming as a training tool. She is an amazing athlete, and a beautiful, vibrant young woman.

i did gymnastics and dance for almost my entire life and i dont think people understand the amount of muscle that comes with those sports. she isn't "big
or fat" she just has more muscle than others

Very unfortunate that she was shamed and given hate. she looked amazing in her curviest form, and looked the most energetic and happy during her performances. Definitely my favorite gymnast to watch

I still get riled every time I've seen this video (and the longer version). Ohashi is an incredible athlete. When I see her floor routines I am constantly amazed at her athleticism, her technique and her brilliant smile. I admire her strength and fortitude to fight through the cruel body shaming she had to endure.

I remember watching her floor routine that went viral and you just felt like dancing alongside her! It was so full of joy and fun but there were so many comments about her weight. Not about the amazing performance and tricks, not about the huge smile on her face, these people watched her routine and pointed out her weight, which literally was nothing. It’s heartbreaking that athletes have to go through this

That is absolutely disgusting. She is a talented powerhouse, not fat at all. Her energy comes from her stamina and strength.

I’d love to see a documentary done on Kaitlyn. She and Simone were neck and neck in competitions. Kaitlyn continued on to become one of the best college athletes and had to deal with negativity sometimes due to her weight. In spite of adding a few pounds she proved that one can still be successful in gymnastics with a positive mindset, talent and hard work. She also always showed that contagious smile and routines that really highlighted her playful personality
