As a person raised in the armpit of America, I was also surprised to see Jersey on the list.

That's a difficult question. The reason we have states is because of the vast diversity of cultures in our country. No one state represents the other 49 states.

Pennsylvania should’ve been up there. Philadelphia is the city where the U.S. was originated, and where the first U.S. flag was made.

My seven guesses were (in order): Texas, Florida, California, Washington, New York, Tennessee, and Nevada.

Ohio surprised me but like I get why it’s up there.

I’m just glad we don’t have to pick one state to represent the whole US. Each state is too individual (or too blue/red) to represent.

Hawaii? of all the states they pick the ONE that happens to be the least like any other (other than maybe alaska).

Pennsylvania should be the right answer. Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Michigan are all good answers with mix of big population centers and farms.

But the answers are not based on what is correct but what people think.

US has farmlands and big cities. US has oil fields and mid tier cities. US has gas fields and small towns. US has historical places. Pennsylvania with a slice of Midwest (western Penn) and most of Mid Atlantic. Ideologically divided. It has oil and gas like Texas. It has Philly (big city) and Pittsburgh (mid tier city). It has hills and flat lands.
