Here, synthetic is definitely and substantially cheaper than felt paper. Have you priced out felt in the last 15 years? Just curious.

That guy should go to Hollywood and be an actor. He does voices better than Adam Sandler. Great vid, thank you.

That gave me a few good laughs at the end especially. You made some good points.

EDIT: Screw it. Just went up on that roof... It's just easier to replace the felt at this point. It was just out too long. Felt is not that expensive for a small DIY project for a section of roof that is less than 200 sq fit.

Original post:
I'm replacing a roof that I only expect to use for maybe 10 more years at most. I want to eventually add a new extension some time in the future, but the leaks dictated that I get this work done now. So that said, my 30# felt underlayment has been unprotected for a few months (yea, too long, I know) and has some bad wrinkles. I really don't want to replace it all just to eliminate the puckers.
Today is a warm sunny day, so I'm hoping to minimize the wrinkles with the help of the sun. That said, I note that a few larger wrinkles will remain. I'm thinking that I can "fix" the wrinkles by just cutting them at the peak of the pucker and flattening them with a staple gun and then taking some left over strips of ice and water shield as tape right over the cuts. I'd then be putting down the shingles immediately thereafter. Does this sound suitable given the circumstances?
I've seen some people comment in a few forums that they would simply make the cuts, staple down the overlap and start the shingling. Given that the roof slope should be steep enough, I'm guessing that the addition of strips of ice and water shield on top of felt should only help the situation and shouldn't create any problems, etc.... Thoughts?

Good video. In our area, south eastern VA, synthetic always. Felt maybe for a lean too roof for your lawn mower.

I am a girl and this is my first small construction project organizing, buying all the expensive materials now since covid (What is up with $50.00 piece of plywood wtf!) and learning how to use some new tools. I am building a well shed and I am organizing everything from ground up(By the way it is more work than i ever imagined). I even bought the concrete in 80 pound bags and mixed it. As i strolled the internet watching videos I needed to know more about
felt paper, tar paper, underlayment, synthetic, rubber. Do I put it on roof & same stuff can i put it on the plywood too? What about adhesive? and the white kind HUH?? Even though you left a few things out I thought yours was the clearest, funniest and easiest to understand. Come one let's see part 2 and more pictures . I live in Houston I can send you some pics of the white kind and the rubber underlayment that i am going to put on roof and wrap the shed with it. Thanks ~Marie Tillman Spring Texas

Hey hope all is well, can you fasten synthetic felt with tin caps and ring shank nails? Or it has to be plastic caps? Thing is Miami Dade & florida building code are very strict.

All in reality both underlayment is about the same price 30# felt covers 2squares a roll at 25$ a roll and synthetic is 10squares a roll and the same price as 5 rolls of felt so do the math your better off using synthetic and fyi if you happened to have a few wrinkles the underlayment will settle. I agree and the synthetic it will last longer then the 30# felt

A bungle of shingles is 65 pounds (3 tab), or 75 pounds (architectural) not 90 pounds.
So many errors...
