How much do you know about the Mazda MX-3?

A pint-sized coupé with the world's smallest-ever V6 petrol engine, the MX-3 is an interesting sports car that typifies Mazda's unconventional approach to engineering.

To commemorate 100 years since the formation of the Hiroshima-based cork company that would in later years build Mazda cars, we've created a series of fun fact films about some of our most iconic models.

Watch them and impress your friends with your new-found Mazda knowledge.

"Spa-pita" doesn't make any sense without explanation. I found a Mazda MX-3 press kit from 1991 which states:

"Mazda's chassis designers and development engineers have a canny way to describe the MX-3's superb road manner; 'Spa-Pita.' No such words are found in the Japanese dictionary, or any other language for that matter. They are phonetic expressions of the driver's action and the car's responsive behaviors.
"The driver flicks the steering wheel, more by wrists than arms, and the car instantly responds, turning into a bend, corner or an adjacent lane with minimal change in its posture. That's 'Spa, ' the sound of a sharp knife cutting through an object. Flick it back, or into a new line, the MX-3 immediately stabilizes itself, with hardly noticeable roll, no undesired residual sway, which is the phonetic 'Pita.'"

So it really doesn't make any sense _with_ explanation, either, unless you are already familiar with Japanese onomatopoeia.
