Simulator Demo Flight : FSX : Matrox : TrackIR

This is a follow up to the "Components" video. This is a quick trip out of KASE, turn around and land. It really doesn't showcase much of the components in use but you can get a sense of how the TrackIR functions within the virtual cockpit view.

Thanks for the quick feedback. There's a lot to learn in FSX, but I think the journey will be fun. Look forward to seeing more of your videos-flights, equipment reviews, whatever. Your leaving out pulsating music and instead speaking clearly and rationally in your postings is a welcome relief. Dave.

Ha - you are the first to notice the track. Nice work. I am rocking to 311 right now... Thanks for the comment on the simulator. I need to leave the office to go work on a laptop I am cleaning & clearing for some external gauges. Later

Thanks - I no longer have that setup. :) I ditched the 3x monitor setup and run a single 42" and all PFC hardware. My laptop on the side runs all the other displays for other simming addons.

In terms of spanning the 3 screens, I make sure that windows sees my display as one large monitor (5040x1050 etc) and make sure you have wideviewaspect=true. That's all I had to do.

You know as an airliner pilot i can tell you a beer helps calm the nerves, its a big responsibility so a beer or five helps take the edge of it.

@RKCmix The setting is found on the TrackIR interface. "Center" is the command you are looking for and you can set it to any hotkey you would like. I set it to what ever hotkey and then map a yoke button to that hotkey. That way I can reset view instantly when needed.

It was tight... no doubt about. It squished my brain for about the first week before I said I either need to loosen this headset up or not use it. From there I just the brackets to get a not so tight fit.

I know where you are coming from... I just put muscle on it.

@RotationFSX Thanks Phil - Yeah, I need to do more videos. I have been busy flying with my buds. Perhaps we will do a video of shared cockpit over Vatsim or something. As you noted, there are a ton of videos out there so I haven't determined if it's worth my time to do a video of some variety unless someone wants to see something specific. Thanks for the comments-

@DavesFSX Dave - I think the 25" would be sweet! I just upgraded to 3x22's since I had to get a couple of new monitors in the house any way. The 5040x1024 is damn near 6' across... and it's nice. with the new rig, I need all the horsepower I can get to push said resolution and record with Fraps. I flew around last night in the Lancair (ORBX) HD paint, Orbx NRM with REX textures - max autogen, density and water. With fraps running I was still locked at 30. It was a thing of beauty. Do it.

Already got one - new Saitek + quad came in yesterday. It's nice.

I have X52 Pro also which is great for those more fighter type of activities.

This is a great video Bman.
Make some more videos as the amount of rubbish on youtube regarding FSX is abudant..
I'm subscribing in the hope you knock some more out. :)

Hey there - I used a Matrox 3H2Go. The little box plus the software (PowerDesk) sets it up for you. Windows registers a single 5040x or 3470x horizontal resolution. I have since gone to a single 40" 1080p 240ghz panel for my simulator / general PC setup. I have the matrox sitting right next to me in a box. I am going to list it up somewhere. It's not the cheapest solution but it was the only solution when I was flying 3x monitor setup. EyeFinity does the same thing with 2 GPUs (I think)

@bushflyn All you have to do is set the hotkey in the TrackIR 4 or 5 software. It should pick up on your yoke if it's plugged in via USB. Thanks for the recognition :) I need to make another video that isn't so dull!

@rajeke I think you missed the tutorial that noted 8 hour bottle to throttle does not apply during simulator use. :)
Off to ZLA to practice backcourse ILS and DME arc approaches... That's where the fun is!

Yes, in the .cfg file. It's not in the FSX menus.

Win XP, you’ll find it here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX.

In Windows Vista & 7, you will want to make sure hidden files are shown and then look here:

For a while - technically since FS II but nothing serious until FS95. New setup... not much is new but a Saitek Yoke and a new GTX 275.

BTW - I saw your TTR. I ride a YZ250F here in Missouri.

@Boeing757basher07 I will have to do a video review of those panels. In general, they are excellent. However, they really only fit the bill of GA craft. A lot of switches won't do much in say the Level D 767.

I find the radio panel the best panel since I fly only on Vatsim. It makes for quick work of the radio frequencies as well as the NAV1 and NAV2 / DME / ADF and XPDR. All of them as a whole work great but really geared for GA birds.

@trypwned Sweet! Keep at it. Perhaps we will see you in the skies of Vatsim or something.

There is nothing wrong with TIR 4 at all - that's what I still use to this day. If I was buying a new one, I would probably get 5 since it's only $50 more. Money well spent to have the latest and greatest. If you are tight on budget (sounds like that's not that case) I would certainly spend the few extra dollars. There is absolutely nothing wrong with TrackIR4 at all. I fly with it every day.
