Would you like to create high dynamic range (HDR) images with a natural look and optimal quality? Then be sure to check out this video!

High dynamic range (HDR) techniques provide a great solution to situations where the range of tonal values in a scene exceeds what your camera is able to capture with a single photographic image. In this informative and entertaining session, photographer (and popular B&H Photo Event Space presenter) Tim Grey shares tips to help you truly make the most of HDR images.

You’ll learn:

- How to capture the initial images to ensure the best HDR result in post-processing

- Which software creates the best HDR images

- Tips for creating HDR images that look natural, without the "HDR look"

- Workflow recommendations for optimizing HDR images

- And much more!

The problem with this presentation is that it is about 2016 technology. Now looking back (from Late January 2021) the information seems a bit dated. My Canon 5D mk iv does a great job adding detail to shadow areas in Camera Raw without producing noise. If I decide to use HDR I can do it in camera. If the algorithm in the camera doesn't work, you still have bracketed exposures (if you set the camera correctly) that you can use with "Merge to HDR..." in photoshop.

One piece of random advice for owners of newer cameras (like the 5D mk iv). If you are still shooting everything at ISO 100, like I was taught, shoot some test shots at higher ISO. Take the RAWs into Camera Raw and adjust color and luminance noise reduction then add sharpening . You might be surprised...

What many of us don't seem to acknowledge is that because of competition amongst camera companies, image technology is advancing rapidly. I am sure that four years from NOW everything I am doing now will be obsolete.

I have a 5D Mark IV. How would I do a 9 shot (semi) automatic multiple exposure? Or would this be the time to buy a new camera as Tim sugested?
Allways great to ses Tim do his presentations. Seems like a realy nice guy.

Found it. The Mark IV does 7 shot bracketing and with the shutter set to 2 second timer it works perfectly.

Adobe has said the last two editions of LightRoom really do better with only two images; one light one dark. They discussed this with Scott Kelby who passed it along.

Awesome and enlightening. Regarding the "novel" names for presets in Aurora HDR ... looks like the work of Trey Ratcliff. I believe Trey is playing a role in producing the program. I purchased some Photomatix presets from his web site a couple of years ago, and their names appear to have been devised by the same mind that devised the pre-set names for Aurora.
