You can advance Night to Day via your map

IF THEY ARE NOT APPEARING, CAST LUMOS AT THAT EXACT LOCATION AT NIGHT TIME AND THEY WILL APPEAR AND THE QUEST WILL CONTINUE AS NORMAL.

So, he has also forgotten to mention that this quest needs to be done at night. Go into your map, and at the bottom right side of the screen, you will see an option to wait. After you wait, it is now dark. Once you have read the letter at the shown location, you can now cast Lumos to reveal the candles

It needs to be Night time for this to work, instead of waiting for it, press M for Map, and at the bottom of the screen press Wait - this is the way how you can manually change day/night cycle!

After doing this quest, I discovered a weird destroyed house with my character saying I wonder who lived here killed some creepy, walking skeletons, and then saw some purple cloud thing, fly away and heard a voice say something about won’t miss just one student I immediately saved in case I was going to die 😂
