One of my favorite incidents was skeptics calling Acts fiction because it referenced locations that were not found. Until archaeologists found them.

“Luke is an historian of the first rank; not merely are his statements of fact trustworthy, he is possessed of the true historic sense … in short, this author should be placed along with the greatest of historians.”

Sir William Ramsay

“For Acts the confirmation of historicity is overwhelming. . . . Any attempt to reject its basic historicity must now appear absurd. Roman historians have long taken it for granted.”

He also got things most accurate where he claims to have been.

Studies of names in the Bible have shown that the frequency of names and which ones exist in different periods and regions are accurate to all historical census data we can find. Something that no historical fiction has ever been able to replicate without extensive research and access to said census data. None of the authors of the Bible would have access to that data.

The author of Luke and Acts is one of the greatest historians to ever live! Thank you for strengthening our faith brother and keep it up. You’re changing hearts and lives in the name of Christ ❤️

In spanish acts can also be read as facts (hechos), since the word acts can both mean event or fact depending of the context. So the titles wordplay would seem redundant in spanish lol.

This is why he was chosen outside of the apostles to write a gospel of Jesus. Because so many doubters then and now would say "Well its all written by the guys who were really close friends with Jesus. They could just be backing him up because hes a bro." But Luke wasnt an eyewitness directly. Matthew and John were but 2 Luke and Mark were companions of the eyewitnesses and Luke being a historian makes it all more trustworthy ❤❤❤ Jesus is Lord and God, King of the universe 🙏

Acts is my favorite book of the Bible. I love the theme that if it is God’s will, we can not go against it, and shows God establishing his Church despite the best efforts of those who opposed it at the time. The fact that Christianity is still spreading today is a living miracle, and Acts really sets the tone for that.

Luke: “gotta leave important geographical details”

John: “gotta make sure everyone knows I was faster than Peter”

This shows the amaxing efficiency of God/Jesus. He chose those who despte their flaws were highly skilled and intelligent, to bear witness to the amazing presence of Jesus. God wasnt going to just have 1 witness, he brought 12 who could share the historical event.

"History buff" is quite the understatement. Luke was an Historian, on top of being a physician.

Luke was a companion of Saint Paul, so, of course, he would get the titles right since he was there.

I really want to see a debate between the patristica group and someone like Bart ehrman representing the mainstream on specifically when the gospels were written.

It's interesting how Luke gives an accurate account of the Acts period, but fails to do the same for more important events that happened decades prior, such as the Census of Quirinius. This is particularly surprising because it contradicts Matthew (and coincidentally the event is mentioned in Mark), while being, in the context of the birth of Jesus, a much more important detail to get right (in order to supposedly lend more credence to the story).
