In the past I have spent lot's of hours practicing my head loop (Yes on a steer head that I had to walk up and take it off on) and my heel loop on a saw horse while practicing for team roping. Watching your videos has started my roping practice again but with multiple different loops and styles. Thank your from Terrell, TX. Oh and my miniature donkey and mule, sarcastically say Thanks A Lot as well, since they are on the receiving end of my roping practice.

My biggest advice in the branding pen is if you are the greenie fine . and if you don't drag many calves not the end of the world more calves to rope for the others but WATCH what you are doing don't cause a wreck.  Better to drop your rope than get the someone hurt.   That last shot was pretty cool.

Roping with Dave Weaver is the best thing you can do for your roping. He is awesome.
I do enjoy these videos, good job.

Thank you so much! What started out as cursory research for writing a book has become an intense interest in the work and way of life, and though I've seen plenty of roping by now it always went too fast for me to actually see details. This was a fantastic breakdown, so thank you!

Hard to put a dollar value on a free video lesson but any idiot can see this one has a lot of value to it. I found your website the other night and was very impressed. The bit that you have designed makes me wonder if it has any flex at the cricket or is rigid through the middle? Thank you both for another great video.

Hey that wasan informative ranch roping. Lesson because I have been to several brandings and I only know team. Roping shot and a lot the time doesn't work. But I will work on those loops that you showed me. I will be ready for the next branding. Thank you very much.

Thank you, sir, I just moved onto the family ranch and I have to do a lot of these things myself because the previous generation is busy recovering from surgery.

Gotta go grab a new calf because his mama is letting other calves steal milk and they need to be separated from the herd.

Very good video. Not in a hurry, and explained well . Are you in northeast Nevada? Looks real similar to where I live.

Hi Pat and Deb. This Caleb from Southeast Idaho. Could you post some content about how you treat and care for your reatas? If it's not too much trouble.

Thanks for all the knowledge. Pat's a true buckaroo! Just curious, does he ever use tapaderos?

I can’t figure out how to send a post direct, so I’ll ask on this I guess. We branded our first 10 calves and one of the brands was botched! 🙄 I’m sorry to say that the top part of the brand had been burned through from the man on the darn iron putting to much weight and left it to long and burned through the hide by about an inch! 😡 mad at myself mostly for allowing it as it was my responsibility to watch him. But, anyway, I caught the calf again and purple sprayed it. What should I do?! And how worried should I be about it becoming infected and causing a serious problem? Please, no hate comments guys.

Pat, I enjoy all the videos. Your wisdom and horse Savvy ways remind me I still have lots to learn.

I’m in the middle of building some corrals. I have lots of options but want to know what lay out or max size corral your prefer for branding calves?

Thanks in advance!

Not by an inch through the flesh, but through the hide and about an inch in length.
