Took me my first try. Dot every I, cross every t. Bug every medical professional to submit their reports and, best of all, be friendly with the examiner.

I think that a person filing for SSDI, has a better chance, in the initial stage.
With the "ADJUDICATOR" they are human being's, like the rest of us. Once She/He, sees someone's application, they will approve it, if your condition is serious enough to meet a listing. And if you are getting treatments for your condition. But the most important thing, in my opinion, is your work history. If an adjudicator sees that the applicant has a long and consistent work history. Your long work history is letting them know that you have been a hard worker all of your life, and that you're not just trying to scam the system.

the best lawyer in the world is worthless without the proper documentation of your medical condition. what your medical provider puts into their notes and your records are key. also get an evaluation from an occupational therapist or rehabilitationist. the ones social security uses are far from good and they never see you just your medical files. be on offense. make them defend!

Thank goodness for lawyers who agree to work on a contingency basis. This means they only get paid if they win.

I have been trying to get approved since 2014. I'm homeless, and I have my whole life in two suitcases. I've lost everything but I can't work. I've had two traumatic brain injures and a stroke.
They have just keep saying that I can do menial tasks. I have a c3 c4 c5 injury and my hands are numb all the time. I also don't have enough control of my fine motor skills and I have tremors, I have auditory visual and tactile hallucinations, PTSD, circadian rhythm disfunction, and my face was smashed in. So I have a small bit of agoraphobia. I'm on so many medication for my mental health. At least once a year since I started this claim, I end up getting a vacation in the nut hut 7 -10 days in patient. Get my medication tweaked and I kinda need to be in there during the come down from my current meds and then the new meds kick in.
I am completely crumpled. I have my 3 rd hearing. I struggle with making change, very confused at times, I get lost in my own story and can not remember what I was saying, or remember what made me start to speak. I'm not sure if I am a human type of person.

During the midst of COVID I had an over the phone initial SSDI application interview. However, SSA did not process my SSDI application. Later, being caught off guard, I discover that SSA had taken it upon themselves to file on my behalf an SSI application. So I informed SSA that it was an SSDI application and not an SSI application that I had intented to file. I believe that SSA down played my SSDI application and took it upon themselves to apply for me an SSI application. I appealed.

Thanks for the video. I just started the process. Have multiple issues doctor said I couldn’t do my job anymore. My long term disability company has hired an advocate to help me. Hopefully it will get approved. I’m doing all they say. I’m more than a little nervous .

The real secret is a solid work history, an identifiable disability, good medical treatment and documentation, and a good attorney that is well aware of the different "theories" of a successful disability claim. An attorney that files a pre-hearing brief at the ALJ level makes all the difference! Youtube videos by Jonathan Ginsberg will help folks navigate the process.

It would be interesting to see how many applications have been submitted since 2009... Especially compared to the 10 years prior to 2009

The reconsideration is performed by same agency that made the initial denial (different staff, but same method/procedures etc) - that’s the root of why this level tends to have low chance of approval

At the hearing, the judge isn’t bound by past decisions ... makes his/her own call & yes, a good attorney can help

There’s also an appeals council above the ALJ(administrative law judge) - small chance there

And beyond that, federal district court

Overall .. takes considerable medical records & very specifically disability in this context relates to capacity to hold a job

(For reference ... I won my SSDI case at the hearing level)

I've been trying for disability for about 8 months. Had a car accident and a cancer scare which delayed some of my neurology exams. I have MS. At this point, I can barely walk from my car at work to my office at work. As the day goes on, usually about halfway (1:00 to 2:00 PM), my speech becomes so impaired, people can hardly understand me. So, giving up is not even an option. I will NOT be able to work soon. I will have NO income.

Thanks for all this. I have had a broken back. And a crushed leg. But because I am self employed I not only are automatically disqualified but get the opportunity to work harder and for a few extra years to help others who just want to retire early and get 3-4 times what I'll make after 50 years of working my ass off.
