I'm shocked: being taken to a birthday party, then being left alone for over four hours and not even being offered some birthday cake. Even if those people didn't speak Japanese, that's no way how you treat any guest. That is really fxxking rude. Even worse than rude.

First time (that I remember) being abroad was moving to Japan. 🤣 I’m from the US but I live in Japan, now. It’s definitely different but Japan is wonderful. I love it.

I went to Japan to visit. I’m originally from Japan myself, but I was adopted and raised in the U.S. It was awesome to go back though. I have a special connection to Japan and I hope to live and work there sometime in the near future. It would be nice to reconnect to my Japanese roots.

I've been to many places, both alone and with my family. But Japan is the only place I've been to repeatedly by myself. I've been going twice a year for the past few years now. During my last trip, I went around Japan using a JR Rail Pass for 3 weeks. It was exhausting, but definitely worth it. Also, among first world countries, Japan is actually quite cheap for tourists. Food in particular. Food in Australia, New Zealand and France were noticeably more expensive. I mean, I can have a good meal in Japan for $10-15. Even $5 gets you kakiage with soba or curry rice at most train stations. In other first world countries, $10 is pretty much Asian takeout or fastfood and a great meal would be $25-30 upwards.

I liked the culture of travel so much that I made it my career speciality. There are more than a thousand reasons to go abroad! The lady buying crockery in Finland got me curious, some people would rather buy from the internet or something, but she went all the way there! Nice.

Japan also has a low passport possession rate, similar to the United States. (Japan 23%, USA 42%) It is called the strongest passport, but it is very wasteful. Like the United States, the cause is probably anything in Japan. There is also a snow resort, a beach, and a hot spring. And above all, it has good food and it's reasonable. Especially for young people, the number of people going abroad has been decreasing until they spend their time.

I travel a lot for past few years due to work condition. Japan & Copenhagen surely won my heart.
Oh, Bali mentioned! Seems a lot of Japanese enjoy beach & island life (and most of foreigner I bet) :D As a women who grew up in Indonesia, let me suggest 1 thing : please consider another islands in Indonesia. We have another +12.000 islands to be discovered, Karimun Jawa, Lombok, Raja Ampat and the list goes on. Frankly speaking, Bali is over touristic nowadays :)

As to why I was abroad. It was in the US Navy. The place I have been to is a bit of a long list. But here goes. Costa Rice 3 time, Panama once. Ecuador once, Russia Once, Malaysia once, Hong Kong 4 times, Singapore, about 12 times ( had supply base there ), Australia twice to Perth once to Sydney. Pusan S Korea twice, Philippines 4 times two times to Subic Bay twice to Manila, Bahrain several Times, Jordan, Kuwait, Okinawa. But my favorite by Far, It was like a second home to me, was Japan. I was stationed in Sasebo lived there for 4 years, Dearly loved it there. Been to Nagasaki, Tokyo and Yokosuka. I was treated so good by everyone I met there. Even with my poor Japanese language skills, I was made to feel very welcome. I hope to return some day and visit Kyoto.
