12$ an hour? ... I live in Minnesota as a target worker getting $15 an hour

The father was helping out the other son by giving him a sale, not the caller.

Who cares about truck? 12 dollars an hour for a diesel mechanic? Mike, quit your job right now!

$12 as a diesel mechanic? Oh my God this poor guy is getting robbed.

Instead of stretching the budget paying for Dad's car loan you need to stretch the budget to take a day off and get a new job. This is what a lack of self confidence does to you. It has you in places and situations that aren't in your best interest. Today's a good day to make a change.

12/hr? Macdonalds pays more. Time to look around.
Also just give your keys back to your dad to have him sell it. It was pretty out of line to do that even if his intentions were good.

You’re a diesel mechanic. Find a Cummins Ram for 10k.
Wish you luck

You are not obligated to pay it. It was a gift. What stupid person gives a loan as a gift?

I got you a gift, now pay for it go the next 3-5 years...people need to learn to tell people no. I feel bad that he feels obligated to pay for the truck.

As a car mechanic can testify that the automotive industry employers can exploit you especially when you have less experience, you really have to up your game and be a threat of leaving.

$12per hour is for someone to change oil. He should be getting $30-50 per hour just for being an auto mechanic depending on city/state.

Reminds me of the car commercials during Christmas - surprise your spouse with spending $40, 000 without talking to them, YAY! Sounds like his Dad owns a truck to me.

sir you’re worth more than $12/hr. My first FT job, I was making 8.5/hr and 6 yrs later I was at $16/hr. I thought that was plenty... I changed careers and now I am making way more.... always believe if yourself.

Oklahoma is a low cost of living, lower economy area. 15-17 an hour starting is probably reasonable for the states CoL, 12 is not. He should be looking for 18-20/hr their based on experience. Since the caller is a vet, he gets a veterans hiring preference for state and federal jobs, so that’s research to do.

His dad and brother did this great deed without first talking to this young man. That's not a gift, a gift would be giving this young man the down payment they put on this new truck and letting him decide where to put this money. As far as speaking with his employer 'DON'T' until you have sent out resumes to other companies and see what you can get even if it means you may be moving out of your area, because after you tell your dad and brother you cannot make those payments on the truck and that you need to take it back they may disown you. Or if you decide to accept another job out of state maybe, you will be able to afford those payments after all. ps. some car/dealerships give a grace period before 30 days to see if you like the vehicle, maybe you can take it back and pick something you can afford. Be strong and courageous be your own individual with independence!

What kind of foolery is this? Dad would be stuck with the payment . He’s under paid too.

You don't surprise someone with a car unless its a gift 🤣 If someone showed up in front of my house with my dream truck and said "congratulations, we're giving you this loan!" I would promptly and explicitly tell them to get off my property
