As I often tell my European friends "Start off in the middle of Ireland and drive in any one direction for 45 minutes and you are in the Atlantic ocean...Start off in the middle of Los Angeles and drive 45 minutes in any one direction and you are still in Los Angeles."

As the saying goes, Americans think 250 years is a long time, and Brits think 250 miles is a long drive 😉

I was once talking in a BTS fan group. We were talking about the LA concert series in 2022. They kept saying "at least they are performing in your country". I told them that LA is over 2, 600+ mi away from where I live. They may as well be in another country!!

My German friends in the 80s just could not grasp how big America is.

More than once I had to council some couple that the Grand Canyon is not a drive to Paris away from NYC, etc. That just Texas is the size of much of Western Europe sans the Iberian peninsula.

in my state, Montana, you can drive 14 hours at 75 mph and still be inside the state.

As a born and bred American, can I just say how much we appreciate our British brothers and sisters. Without a doubt, you are our closest allies.

I was born in America, and never really fully understood exactly how big the country truly was until I took a road trip from North Carolina to Michigan. It took roughly 11hrs, had to stop twice to refill the gas tank and this was on MAJOR INTERSTATES where the speed limits were 65-75mph. Meaning that JUST to go roughly 650miles ONE way, took a full day when including pulling over to eat and sleep due to being fatigued.... from JUST driving.

Of course, to put this ANOTHER way to think about things. From Charlotte, NC to Asheville, NC in the mountains is roughly a 4hr drive along interstates AS WELL AS 4hrs drive from Charlotte, NC to Wilmington, NC along the coast. Meaning it takes roughly 8hrs from the mountains to the beaches of North Carolina ALONE, and NC is considered a "mid-sized state" in regard to size and population.

Russia and Canada are both bigger countries than the U.S. But for the most part huge chunks of those countries are uninhabitable.

I'm a truck driver and I've drove in 47 of the lower 48 states. The only state in the lower 48 that I've never been to is North Dakota.. I've drove from California to New Jersey a few times and when I obey my 11 hour drive clock per day, I can drive that distance in a little less then 5 days, about 45 hours total.. It's over 2700 miles.. I love America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲

Yeah, I used to drive 500 miles(800km) one way regularly from my house in Southern California to my dad's grass fed cattle ranch in Northern California for a weekend visit. About 7 hours drive one way, usually at night to avoid traffic. When you go that far that long it's peaceful. Haha

Ya I recently heard another UK family on YT announcing they were coming to the US for 2 weeks. Landing in Miami and we’re gonna drive and check out from the Midwest to the east coast. I laughed and told them that’s not gonna happen if you’re driving only. They have since kept it to Florida and a few other southern states. Georgia, Alabama ( space 🚀) museum. And then they’re either gonna goto New Orleans and check out that or come here and check out Nashville and finish in the East Tennessee mountains. People not from here definitely don’t know how big this country is.

I live in Sacramento, CA, and some people in Spain, where I was born, are surprised that I have never been to New York City other than changing planes. Big picture: New York City is 2, 845 miles from Sacramento farther away than Moscow (the one in Russia, not the one in ID) from Valencia (2, 455 miles), my birthplace. So Valencianos, why haven’t y’all been to Moscow yet?

9:00 Albert Einstein said something that was later paraprhased as "I don't know what weapons World War 3 will be fought with, but World War 4 will be fought with Sticks and Stones."

Let's put it this way, I used to take road trips and I would go from San Diego, CA (the southern most point of California) to Kentucky. If I drove straight, with no stopping, it would take about 2.5-3 days of non-stop driving. And if I drove to the east coast, it would take an extra half day. Realistically, it would take about a week, cuz I like to take sleeping stops. Lol. The road trips usually were about 4 weeks driving around the country to see some sights and visit family in other states.
