Hey there, I'm Tim Noonan. For one year, my fiancée PJ Madam and I went on a global odyssey to explore the weird and wonderful marriage customs of remote tribes to see if we really wanted to tie the knot ... or not. Our brand new 8-part docuseries launches globally 12 July 2019 on Netflix.

My favorite episode is the one with the Wodaabe husband who treats PJ with gentleness and respect. He's obviously into her. She's beautiful. But, he shows it by engaging with the things Tim has actually made fun of PJ for doing. The Wodaabe husband holds her hair so she can put on her makeup. And, he's totally cool with PJ doing his makeup. It's a way for them to connect and have fun. He doesn't see it as emasculating.
I'm impressed by this man's ability to connect with a woman of such a different culture. I thought it was pretty sexy.
Anyway, I just wanted to leave this comment in opposition to those who seem to think PJ was somehow less adventurous or engaged than Tim with these places and people. I think this episode shows how Tim had a hard time connecting and appreciating this place and these people. If you thought PJ was whiny or weak in other episodes, watch this one. Tim is irritable, jealous, and so hurt that the men won't hit him with a stick. It shows how Tim, too, can get wrapped up in himself and miss the chance to learn from this Wodaabe man how to connect with PJ, not through fighting or adrenaline, but tenderness and acceptance. I think Tim would've seen this if he were focused more on PJ and less on himself and the camera.
Also, I think this whole show just illustrates the extent to which PJ is willing to go to connect with Tim. I mean, she put her career and comfortable life on hold to venture out and face down death several times. She ate turtle penis, beat a snake to death, was nearly killed by a shark, rode a horse/pony for days through a blizzard, saved Tim's life by getting him proper care when he had malaria, and on, and on.
I mean, come on! Who are these jerks criticizing her!? I think she's pretty bad ass. Plus, she has given birth to a healthy baby. Now, that's a cool mama!
I hope Tim has learned to hold her hair back while she puts on makeup, and can teach his son to treat her (and all women) with the same respect and tenderness.

I somehow came across this show mainly to take in the adventure and look for far out places I'd love to visit. I usually travel alone and have been on amazing adventures. The idea of having someone to go on these adventures would be amazing! But I was disappointed by PJ's behavior. There were times where I found both of them to surprisingly insensitive. No one invited you to go there. The people in these villages were incredibly kind to feed this couple, give them a place to sleep, and to include them in the rituals. I've had the luck of being invited to be a part of different community rituals and would never have said/behaved the way this couple did. But I was surprised how overly dramatic and condescending PJ seemed to be behaving. She didn't seem to respectful of other cultures at all. She made a big deal about killing a pig and eating pigs testicles. Here's the thing, you're in the middle OF NOWHERE. This is how people survive. It was odd to listen to her constant complaining of the different rituals/situations she was engaged in. Also, many cultures eat testicles (ie, I've eaten bulls testicles in Spain). And you have a problem killing animals but you didn't mind killing a baby chick? No one is perfect, but damn, watching these two actually made me sad. Tim seems like a fun, lovely, adventerous dude. I was really saddened that PJ came off as a negative, pessimist, and verbally/emotionally abusive. I stopped watching the show because I found her exhausting. Too bad...seems like it could have been an interesting show.

Tim you should really get away from this woman before she kills your soul. Maybe do some Ayahuasca again and have a little think about your future, cuz this should not be it.

Wow, I really feel bad for Tim. Although I love this adventure! I can see what drew him to this woman. She is obviously gorgeous and confident, charismatic and unapologetic. However: She is constantly chipping away at him. At his confidence, his joy. I would definitely say she is a covert narcissist. I am now watching the episode where she can't cry and Tim is explaining this from his own empathetic stand point. He thinks she is running away from painful feelings and has a wall up. The truth is that covert narcissists do not have very deep emotions. They 'feed' of other peoples emotions. Mostly by constantly throwing people close to them out of balance in very subtle ways. Also she is putting him on a sex diet (after the initial fase of love bombing and passionate sex) while blaming everything on circumstances and people outside of herself. A narcissist is never accountable for anything. They will always blame the other. They often choose empaths as partners. I feel this came out when they had the reading in china where they said her heart was not soft and Tim's is. She immediately makes fun of Tim for that. Just YouTube 'covert narcissism'.
Also Tim is an adrenaline-lover and having a relationship with a covert narcissist feeds right into this. They will only feed you breadcrumbs of approval and sex. They make it harder and harder to get any form of approval, so this can even create a pattern of addiction in the brain and is attractive for a chaser like Tim. Truth is that the love bombing fase never comes back.

I’m confused how Extreme Engagement doesn’t ring any bells of INAPPROPRIATE🤔. Here we have yet another white and white-passing couple utilizing people of color to bond them closer together with their cool and exotic cultures😄Let’s create the standard that the white way is the best way by othering everyone else because clearly what we experience on vacation isn’t normal and it’s so extreme we get to use it to make sure we are ready for marriage🤗so happy 🥳Great job! This is sarcasm in case you missed that 😑. To be specific since clearly it’s needed: “Extreme Engagement” is NOT ok or acceptable.
