The Incredible Truth Behind THIS Viral Photograph

In September 2021, a photograph went viral on social media which appeared to show the 60-year-old Vice President of Suriname, Ronnie Brunswijk, playing for Inter Moengotapoe against CD Olimpia in the CONCACAF League.

Brunswijk is a colourful character, to put it mildly, the former leader of a guerrilla group in the north of Suriname, who is on Interpol's 'Red Notice' as an internationally wanted criminal who was convicted in a court in the Netherlands.

So in this in-depth documentary, HITC Sevens profiles Ronnie Brunswijk, giving context to the viral photograph of him, and explaining how he ended up being Suriname's Vice President and a professional footballer at 60.

As someone who’s born and lives in Suriname, this man “Bigi Bravo” aka Ronnie Brunswijk is again lowering the bar. I really hoped this was not getting so much buzz, boy was I wrong. This man is a disgrace to my country. You forgot about the rape allegations during the war. His political views and his support make him feel and act like a God.

Suriname is probably the lesser known country with the most interesting football stories, both good and bad. On the good end, there are a lot of Dutch players of Surinamese descent, as mentioned. On the bad end, besides the story of Brunswijk "regime", there is also the crash of Surinam Airways flight 764 in 1989 carrying, among other passengers, the _Colourful 11_ which was an exhibition team of Dutch football players of Surinamese descent travelling to play with the champions of the Surinamese top flight. 15 players were killed, and three more had their careers ended because of the injuries sustained.
