David Tennant Visits His Parents - Who Do You Think You Are?

David begins his historical investigations at his parent's home in Paisley by focusing on his father's side of the family, but learns that the trail of the MacDonald family appears to run dry in Callendar, Perthshire. So he turns his attention to the lineage of his mother Helen McLeod, and finds that these forebears in fact hailed from the Isle of Mull.

Famous for playing the time-traveller Dr Who, David Tennant has decided to abandon the Tardis and investigate his own history.

Beginning his historical investigations by focusing on his father's side of the family, David quickly discovered that the paper trail goes cold relatively early on. This means David's hope of tracing his family back to the time of the clans would take a huge amount of research, so he instead turned his attention to the ancestry of his maternal grandfather, Archie McLeod.

In each episode one of Britain's best-loved celebrities traces their family tree to reveal the surprising, extraordinary and often moving stories of their ancestors.

You know what I really love about this man and his family? They are so ordinary. Not a big fancy home with servants, not a lot of garish furniture, no big car, He carries his own suitcase doesn't have a driver etc etc. So lovely and homey. It actually reminds me of my Scottish cousins' home near Edinburgh. The kettle is always on with treats on the table. Sigh. Big difference from US celebs who are always hanging out their with their glitzy lifestyles.

My dad grew up with David Tennant's dad who is Sandy McDonald. He was Moderator of the Church of Scotland at one time.
