The "look" I understood right away (because I was expecting it at some point), was when my dog told me she didn't feel well AND it was time. I made a pledge to her the day I brought her home as a 9-week-old puppy that I would *never* allow her to suffer or ever ask her to hold on for me; I promised I would make sure she had a loving exit when the time came. At almost 11 yrs old, she gave me "the look." She had cancer, and though it wasn't a painful cancer, the treatments she had were not working to buy her more time. She had an upset tummy one night, and I was determined she not have any further bad days or nights. I said to her, "OK, message received. I'll get you to the vet as soon as possible." I kept my promise to her, as hard as it was. I cried for at least a year afterward, the pain of losing her was beyond what I could imagine, but I did the right thing, really, the only thing I could control for her. It's my philosophy for any pet: quality over quantity, and always do what's best for them, no matter how hard it is.

Our Border Collie, my shadow, got to where he followed me to the door everytime i went to leave. It was not the usual 'can I go please please please' it was more a solemn and sad 'i won't be here much longer'. He even quit vocalizing. Still loving and gentle. Then I noticed the shakiness of his legs when he walked. The sadness in his eyes. He hardly ate anything even though i tempted him with all his favorites. He carried his toys to us but never played. And then he couldn't walk. Three days later he left us. It was a very sad day. The reminders of him are everywhere. We wouldn't need them. He was family. I am thankful for the 13 years he was here.

Total dog lover here, it can mean many things but most of all they are *communicating with you.. They can understand your visuals better than rambling chatter.. Sit quietly & imagine their food, the outdoors, their toys, whatever you feel they might be "talking " about.. (visualise one thing at a time, very slow & clear) .. You will usually get an answer if your dog has been treated with love & respect by you,

The dog with the "stiff" tail isn't stiff enough. I had a dog that went into full protection mode when a drunk neighbour tried to come into my house. This was someone she knew sober and had even taken treats from. That tail was as stiff as a metal rod, except for the very tip, which gave a small, equally stiff wag! Full blown stare, hackles up all the way down her back, and entire body stiff, in a ready to go position. Menacing throat rumble. Even drunk as he was, he backed out! Surprised the heck out of me. This was a dog who loved everybody! She sadly passed away at 15.

My baby wouldn’t take her eyes off me the last 3 days. No whimpering just wanted mommy. She passed 2/27/24 at 5:03a I had just left her on my bed to potty. She left me with the last 4 heartbeats & a love I will NEVER 4get. God sure Blessed us with these fur Angels 🌹

In my opinion, this is the greatest love that we will ever know in this lifetime. The human animal connection is the most precious of loves. They are God‘s greatest gift to us and they deserve 110% of the very best that we can give them. They are our children and they are family. .

My 15+/- yr old GSD is showing all the signs of sundown.
He has arthritis and we started him on meloxicam, as coated aspirin wasn't doing the trick.
He's eating
He's drinking
He started back stairs and playing and jumping with neighbors' dogs just today.
He's had two full meals with vit d, fish oil & glucosamine chondroitin supplements.
3 days ago, I was expecting he would have to leave us soon.
I'm a Christian and I prayed for him. I have faith we will have him a while longer.
With a 100 lb GSD @14 3/4
I know every day is a gift, as it always has been with this precious one. So, I'll give praise to the Lord for a wonderful day and more to come🙌🏽

My late Chihuahua always stared at me. When I had a car and she was on the passenger side floor, she’s be staring at me the whole time. A little unnerving. We had a close relationship for 16 and a half years, she saved my life a few times, and I miss those beautiful big eyes staring at me. Now my two cats do the same thing.

My dog seems so in tune with me, that he knows when I need to be doing something different, like when I am on my computer and I need to get ready for an appointment. He will come and stare at me until I get up thinking he wants to go out, but he heads for the bedroom and just lays down, like he knows he did his job and now he can relax. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but he does this kind of thing a lot. ( he is a rescue dog and very bonded to me.)

I can look at her eyes and know what she wants..water..food..attention etc..and she also (since she's a Stock Dog..NOT A PET) knows exactly what I'm thinking or feeling..she has independence and knows that..we crossed with each other..once. We..by choice won't do it again. She REQUIRES LOVE AND ATTENTION. And she can be VERY helpful for protection.
