Tariff are threats and china will not back down. Also US runs out of time very quickly. They have less than a month before inventory runs out. Then tariff kick in. it means average tariff of well above 100% excluding electronics. US imports over 500bn each year. That's 500bn inflation. Also another 300bn from others. Also Chinese imports are significantly marked up. On average about 3 times. It means atleast 2tn inflation in second order impacts. Third order impact are still unclear. It means US will have 8% annualized. But most of them are front ended, US could face inflation upto 30% inflation annualized roughly in May. That's why Trumps U turn.
