Episode 22

Metal Gear essentially invented the entire stealth genre! If you enjoy games like Thief, Dishonored, Splinter Cell, or even Resident Evil, you have Metal Gear to thank for pioneering that type of game play!

Metal Gear was originally designed for the MSX2 computer system, but it would have never become such a popular game series if it wasn't ported to the NES.

So what changed from the MSX version to the one on the NES? How did they get the idea to make a stealth game? And why did Konami have it published by Ultra Games instead of just publishing it themselves? I'll reveal all of that in today's video!

We'll also be doing a deep dive on the original NES game. We'll learn:

* Where to find EVERY Weapon and Item!

* A SECRET trick to pick up multiple items quickly!

* A NEW route through the game that reduces backtracking and avoids the most dangerous areas!

* How to defeat EVERY boss!

* A SECRET for skipping several bosses, including one of the last ones!

* The location of EVERY HOSTAGE, even the fake Dr. Pettrovich!

* How to EXPLOIT the truck network to easily get around the game!

* All about the STAR RANKING system - How to gain ranks fast, and what those ranks do!

* The hidden path through the game's JUNGLE MAZES... AND MORE!

Thanks for watching!

Watching you play these games is like watching an artist paint a masterpiece. Love how you explain everything so someone who knows nothing can honestly follow along and beat the game.

Anyone can do reviews, and anyone can do walkthroughs. Your reviews are interestingly in depth, and your walkthroughs have so far, ALWAYS included valuable and new information.

Bravo.

Also, your presentation for game mechanics and items is TOP notch.

This was one of the 1st videos games I completed from start to finish, me and my dad would make sure to write down all the radio frequencies and all the clues, we had a ring binder tablet filled with notes and scribbles lol, it was awesome. This video has given me so much nostalgia, thanks for this

I find myself surprised not only at how sophisticated this game is for an nes game, but just how FAITHFUL the Solid series was to its origins.
Truly, we stand on the shoulders of giants. The boundless ingenuity of early game developers is something to both admire and respect!

It is a lot of fun watching you play these games. I don't think I ever got very far in this game. I didn't have the patience for it. Kudos to you for finding out all the secrets and showing us how it's done!

I remember finding that glitch in the super computer room, and then playing the end of game multiple times just to see if it was repeatable. Probably the easiest boss skip in any game.
As for why Big Boss sent us, and other of his troops to "stop" himself? I think the later canon was that he sent them under the authority of a country he wanted to attack with Metal Gear, so he would have some cover when he did so. Basically just using Fox Hound as pawns to give him some standing to launch a "retaliatory" attack.

The one time I tried playing Metal Gear, this happened:

I ran through screens until I saw a sleeping dog. I went up and kicked the dog. It woke up and killed me. Confused, I did the same thing. So did the dog.

Me: "what kind of game has a dog that can kill you, but you can't beat it?!"

I turned it off and never played it again.

It wasn't until about 7 years later I learned that something called 'stealth' was in certain games.
