The fact that he was a doctor who knew all the risks of dehydration and exposure to extreme heat makes this all the more bewildering. It's almost as if he had a death wish. They talk about how he understood risks, but this tragedy proves otherwise. RIP Dr M 😢🙏

Can't imagine why a highly intelligent man would take that risk and leaves his phone at home.

When he said to his wife and friends on the beach '' I think i will go for a walk '' didn't they try to convince him not to go. He was 67 years old and it was 40 degrees. Just crazy.

An elderly man flies in and immediately spends the next day outside, on the move, in the 40C, not stopping for the midday siesta. Leaves alone, no phone, no water. Steps off the path, walks the treacherous terrain.

Its like he did everything wrong, everything!

As someone who lives in a country where such high temperatures are not unheard of during our summer, can I say that the doctor you have commenting there on your show is wrong - it was not a 'fine day' and suitable for a walk. Temperatures above 40 degrees are not suitable at all for walking in the open let alone in an arid environment on rocks. Anything above 35 degrees Centigrade is not really suitable for most people. Strenuous exercise should not be undertaken over 30 degrees C. Poor Dr Mosley made a mistake with the conditions. HIs umbrella was also inadequate, from the images I've seen, to be much use for shading him (although better than nothing). Please ask locals for advice before undertaking activities like this.

“Mad dogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun.”. Whenever you travel to hot Mediterranean countries you will only see the Brit out in the scorching sun. Never will you see the natives. There’s a reason why they have siesta’s. Why didn’t his wife who’s also a doctor have the sense to discourage him?

I live in Thailand where the heat conditions have been unbearable this year. No Thai would be wandering up a rocky hill in that kind of heat - nor would the rest of us who live here. People always underestimate how quickly heat stroke can affect them, and of course, we never think it can happen to us. I have thought since the beginning that he succumbed to heat stroke. Let's see what the autopsy says

Sorry the island looks barren and arrid... . For someone who knows so much about bio chemistry, tragic as it is, it was also very foolish and completely avoidable.

It wasn't a planned hike, it was a short walk back to the apartment that went tragically wrong because he took the wrong route, it could happen to anyone. A great loss to those of us who followed and benefited from his immense knowledge and enthusiasm and a devastating loss for his family. I don't think I have ever felt so sad at the death of someone I didn't know personally. Rest in Peace and thank you Dr Michael, you will be sorely missed by so many.

I can’t understand how it took his wife so long to report him missing. He went off in that heat feeling unwell without his phone, a walk that should have taken less than an hour, yet it took his wife about five hours to report him missing? I can’t understand it, she’s a doctor, and she let him go in that heat without his phone? Unless they’d had an argument and he left his phone behind deliberately so she couldn’t contact him. So many unanswered questions.

No one with half a brain wanders around without water or communication in those conditions. Loved Dr Mosely but this didn't make sense. 😢

He was the type of person who loved to test the limits… some limits are just not to be pushed…. I went to that island about 20 years ago… you can only reach that island by boat… it’s very small, very isolating and extremely hot…. When we were there we had to spend most of the time sitting in the sea its was about 45C…. It’s dangerous if you are not aware of the terrain and I would definitely not go out walking during the heat of the day….👀😱

These days nobody goes anywhere without their phone let alone setting out through deserted rockery territory in extreme heat in the middle of the day. Something is not right here. So sad and so unnecessary.

We don't know what happened to him yet, he did have shade, he had a brolly, we don't know if he had or bought water on the way, and how do we know he didn't have a heart attack 😳, he was a well educated and intelligent man, we don't know WHAT, actually happened, At the end of the day, a lovely man has lost his life, his wife children, family and friends are devastated, let him rest in peace, people just be kind, 😢

To those who can’t fathom how a highly intelligent man and qualified Doctor did everything so wrong, it’s in the character of the man. He absolutely knew he faced adversity at every level when he set off on that jaunt across unfamiliar terrain back to the holiday letting. But like so many things he’s done in his life he took a calculated risk that he could overcome whatever. It’s likely he got completely disoriented in the heat. That assumed 30 min trek taking hours and with that comes the anxiety, physical stress with no phone - no chance of making contact. By the time he saw signs of a resort it’s likely that the trek in unshaded 40C wilderness exhausted him with great stress on his heart to the extent he barely had strength to stand up and steady himself as he made his way down and fell down steep rocky slopes to the fenced off area.

Stop speculation please let the Dr rest in peace and respect his family who is going through tough time!

It is stupid to hike in extreme heat. He was a physician and should have known that.

It’s not a beautiful landscape and it’s human instinct to preserve oneself from the heat so his slog over the barren hillside in the scorching midday sun makes no sense.
What makes even less sense is his wife’s attitude - she let him go alone. When he was found she said she “took comfort” from the fact he was so close to safety. That’s the worst part. He was dying within earshot of hearing people laughing and talking. She’s very odd. Her statement seemed planned, not shocked.

I came back from holiday on Friday and switched on TV... I couldn't believe it... I've been crying since then, as if I lost my own relative. I watched every program with Dr Mosley, loved him so much... I thought he'd be there forever, like David Attenborough, experimenting with diets and fitness and teaching us... I'm so devastated... I just can't understand how his family can get over this, if people who don't even know him personally find it so hard 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
