Daria was more relatable when we were teenagers because she was a teenager in the show and we had similar immature thoughts and feelings that she did. If the show was now set to present time she'd be closer to our age and her views would have changed just like ours did. I mean even towards the end of the series she was already starting to change her opinions about things she was previously more judgemental about. I would have liked for there to be a Daria series set in college or further into adulthood because we would have seen her grow out of her outdated opinions and actions.
Still, I cant judge Daria too harshly because she was still just a kid trying to navigate her life the best she could. That doesnt mean I excuse every bad choice she made though.

Tom waa a straight up manipulator . He tried to mess up Daria and Jane’s relationship . Yes Hellen was an awesome mom

The whole Trent not stopping Daria from having a crush..I mean, what do you do? Roll up a newspaper? She never actually persued him or acted on her crush. He never did anything to persuade her either.

Much as people don’t like Tom which is valid. He prove Daria and Jane aren’t immune to highschool drama. Just right of passage everyone no matter how outcast you think you are just gotta go through. Life finds a way lol

Unpopular Opinion: Despite her thinking so, Daria was the most popular/known girl in her school. aside from the fashion club, most of the speaking/named characters actively sought Daria's opinions, approval, and regular interactions. especially in the Misery Chick episode.

I didn't want to like Brittany, but I did. Brittany was the ONLY popular kid that was nice to Daria and Jane. I was hoping they'd become friends in the end.

Tom always bothered me because he has the same condescending attitude Daria has, but it’s less grating on Daria because 1. We see the way she’s been treated at times for being different, 2. Her attitude is proven wrong multiple times throughout the show, and 3. She, herself, admits that this attitude is a front she puts up to protect her feelings.
With Tom, it comes across as genuine, like he really does see others as beneath him.

I appreciate the comments praising Quinn’s growth but also Jane branching out into sports or the popular crowd. I always wanted to see Jane further pursue leaving her bubble since she was good at it. I wish we could’ve seen popular Daria (Daria in Quinn’s clothes and contacts) at the party to see how everyone else would react to a full blown change

Anyone that thinks Jane was a bi icon missed the episode where she harassed and explicitly said she wasn't.

11:18 . I believe Quinn felt like people would only like her if she was good looking and got male attention. I think she saw how Daria rebelled against societal standards of beauty; she was outcasted for this. So, she went through the complete opposite.

It was when people noticed her personality. For example, she fell for her tutor in “is it fall yet?”, he never commented on her looks or was immediately enamored. Forcing her to rely on being somewhat herself to get him to like her.

Also, when Daria was her substitute, and she tried to convince Daria to pass the fashion club. Daria told her “ you’re not like them”, helped her realize she has to try. She knows deep down she isn’t like them.

Let’s not forget, when she mentioned in the episode where they filmed her, that at times she thinks to herself, if they didn’t have looks would they( the fashion club) really be friends.

Mr. Demartino, despite his anger is the best teacher. Considering Mr. O'Neill's repeated failures, Mrs. Birch's abusive behavior, The economics and phys ed teachers both being corrupt/incompetent and The art she was ok but I only remember her from two episodes.

Jane STRAIGHT UP (pun unintended lol) said she was straight after a girl hit on her. I think in “Is It College Yet?” but I don’t know for sure.

I feel like people think Dariah handled racism well because it was surface level. That's all they want to handle and say is good because anything below surface level makes them uncomfortable

I rewatched it as an adult and there’s a lot of things I didn’t pick up watching it as a teen, like in the episode where Val the magazine editor comes to Lawndale and Jodie asks her why her magazine doesn’t have a more multiethnic, multicultural approach and after Val asks her name she goes “Jodie, you’ve got great SASSY energy.” Like I never realized what a micro-aggression that was until now.

Daria is a likeable character, not a likeable person

I always felt Jane was more relatable and more likeable than Daria

Jane was always more well-rounded and someone to aspire to.

Quinn too, with her willingness to change and grow.

Stacy Rowe isn't a mean girl either but is too insecure to be a positive influence on Quinn either
