How to make swirls in Blender

tip for selecting edges in a pattern: select the first two in sequence, then press Ctrl + Shift + Numpad plus and it will automatically select the next edge. Then go Select>edgeloops.

Also, when "playing with it" select a different falloff from the proportional editing drop down menu, select sharp. It will create more pointy swirls
