SpyderX Pro - Unboxing, Setup, First Impressions - Calibrating the Monitor on my iMac with Datacolor

Datacolor sent me the SpyderX Pro Create kit to use and review a few weeks ago, just in time for my iMac and my MacBook Pro to die. So since I had to reinstall all my software and recalibrate my monitors, I figured I would record the process so you could follow along. Watch as I unbox, setup, test, and give you my first impressions of the Datacolor SpyderX Pro monitor calibration tool. Datacolor did provide the gear for review but they did not sponsor this video.

You can check out the SpyderX Pro Create Kit here (not an affiliate link):

Let me know if you have any questions about the SpyderX Pro or calibration one general :)

They sure do a great job of making it clear which of their products we should buy...

Hey Gary. Is the SpyderX Pro still the best for its price? - I know the video is quite old, so was just wondering if you recommend any others for roughly the same price.

This is more helpful than the official video. Thank you

Thanks for the video. Hi Gary did you continue using the Spyder X Pro? I am looking at using it to calibrate my designs for print.

I have the SpyderX Pro. It will remind you when it's time to recalibrate. A little message box will pop up not long after you start your computer to remind you it's time. I'm so glad I have it.

For me, since 90%+ of my work is used online, sending photos to other devices such as phones and tablets is clutch. Most people keep the screens of their devices way too bright and I need to see what the photos will look like in the real world. I still calibrate my main monitor with an X-rite ColorMunki, but that really only tells me what the images are supposed to look like.

Are you able to show us what the colors look like on your phone and do a comparison?

I used a Spyder X Pro on mine 27” iMac. My prints come out with reds much darker. I print with a Epson P700

Hi Gary, Are you still using SpyderX Pro to color calibrate your monitor?

Are you printing straight from PS or do you use a different software for your 2100?

Gary, what profile settings did you use? I know it depends on the printing company we use but curious to know what all the settings you used for that profile in specific.

Good video and helpful. Thank you. I am just an amateur photographer, but know my two monitors are NOT calibrated properly. I have been looking at the Datacolor SpyderX Pro as it has a price point I can justify for my photography.

Great video. I noticed you mentioned that you have an older iMac. I was wondering if it would work with my 2015 iMac or is it too old?

Am I supposed to have the mac function "true tone" switched on or off when I calibrate/after I calibrate? Or does it not matter so long as I stay consistent (always on or always off)? Basically true tone changes your monitor's color temperature when the ambient light in the room changes. It's cooler during the day and warmer at night. I assume the answer is to turn that off before calibrating but when I turn it off my monitor color goes crazy cool (way too blue). Thoughts?

No link to what is in box and where to buy as mentioned in your video?

Does it create a color profile that can be chose from the macOS setting so it can be loaded without the software?

I have the Elite version (the hardware is the same) after saving the profile macos doesn't find the icc profile, i have to apply it from the datacolor software everytime, i can't understand why...

I just got done using Spyder X Pro to calibrate my ASUS Monitor on my PC. I noticed the sRGB gamut was 100% and the AdobeRGB was 79%. Is there any significance to that? Since I am using Photoshop and dealing with digital images for the most part, should I use Adobe RGB or just use the sRGB since it has the higher color gamut?
