Putin invokes Napoleon's defeat after Macron's nuclear speech

Показать описание
Vladimir Putin has invoked the memory of Napoleon Bonaparte’s famous defeat in Russia in the 19th century, hinting that modern France could face a similar fate if it tangles with Russia militarily.
Napoleon’s Grande Armée invaded Russia in 1812 but lost hundreds of thousands of men in the campaign and was forced to retreat in desperate circumstances in winter.
President Zelensky has challenged President Putin to release Ukrainian prisoners of war and stop Russian missile attacks to demonstrate his willingness to engage in peace talks.
The Ukrainian president said the first stage of the ceasefire should include “no attacks on energy and other civilian infrastructure — a truce for missiles, bombs, long-range drones; no military operations in the Black Sea”.
Writing on X, he added: “The release of prisoners could serve as a means of establishing basic trust.
