Very deep lyrics. The relationship is the boat, the boat is broken, there's smoke from the ship fire that can act as SOS signals but it's too late, it can't be fixed, all that can be done is think about if he was the one who's responsible for the breakage and thus both of their death together, or if it was the stormy sea (representing the vastness of life and its cruelty - you are sometimes powerless to its will) as the boat sinks his partner drowns (no longer in his life) and he is floating on some left over debris of the past relationship, lost at sea (life goes on outside as he's lost, forgotten and fighting his demons alone) with only the memory left of his partner that sank with the rest of the boat/relationship.
