Obamas endorse Harris as Trump wants to skip scheduled debate

Former U.S. president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama are endorsing Kamala Harris in her bid to run as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

On social media, Barack Obama said it was a critical time for America, and they'll do everything they can do to ensure she wins in November. Prior to the endorsement, Obama had called for an open contest to decide the next Democratic candidate after Joe Biden withdrew from the race.

Meanwhile, former president Donald Trump, who's running for the Republicans, has indicated he wants to skip their scheduled debate – for now.
