One of my favorite bonusy bonus areas was back when I first got it after scouring the entire game world for hours in Super Mario Rpg legend of the 7 stars. In the game, you find 2 items hidden around the world needed to grow a giant vine that leads to a unique set of items, both named the Lazy Shell, a weapon and armor that is rather good but feels a bit cheaty. Nowadays a quick online search would give you the guide to the items locations, but having no guide and having no idea where to look or when, that was the challenge. That, or the floating ghost like toad houses in SMB3. I used to love getting a pwing so I could just explore certain levels on different play throughs. Also, going up the vines in SMB1, just to bounce/dance on the top of the vine, I remember that I found that really fun back in the day. Thanks for asking. Best wishes.

In the original SMB1, the lava didn’t kill you. Instead, where the lava was, there was a hole.

I liked how Darby kept sending Bowser into the lava and sending the koopa troopas to their deaths.

Some reason I wish you could put the portal under toad and send him into the lava..

If I had to pick a favorite level, it'd probably be "Mysterious Mountinside" (the 4th star in Tall Tall Mountain) from Mario 64, it's just fun.
