Hello Everyone!

It has been quite a while since I posted anything, so for those of you who’ve stuck around, thanks for waiting! Between lots of fun adventures, battling some laryngitis/health issues in the last year, and working on some other exciting music projects, YouTube fell to the wayside for a while. However, I’m hoping to share some more of what I’ve been working on soon, and I’m happy to be back!

This little folk song is, from what I can tell, an Appalachian song with roots stemming from England/Ireland. I’ve heard several versions, including a lovely rendition by the Wailin’ Jennys, which I highly recommend! The Appalachian dulcimer I am playing was a gift from a friend and colleague who has encouraged me in my exploration of folk music. This seemed like a great song to debut the instrument on my channel with! :)

While the lyrics speak for themselves, I will share that this song has such a beautiful and hopeful take on what can often be a sobering and lonely place - a graveyard. I have struggled this year, as many have, with loss and with disappointment Things I hoped for were deferred or seemed to “die.” Whether the graveyards in your life be physical or metaphorical, this song points to a beautiful truth! Christ is reconciling all things (Col. 1:20). He will not leave this broken world broken forever. While I may not always know how He is at work, He is able to redeem and use every circumstance for the good of those that love Him and for His glory; when He returns, He will set the wrongs to right. That is the hope this song offers, and ultimately, that Christ offers!

Love,
Lianna ❤️

Come, come with me to the old churchyard
I so well know these paths 'neath the soft green sward
Friends slumber in there that we want to regard
We will trace out their names in the old churchyard

Mourn not for them for their trials are o'er
Why weep for those who will weep no more?
For sweet is their sleep, though cold and hard
Their pillows may be in the old churchyard

I know it's vain when friends depart
To breathe kind words to a broken heart
And I know that the joy of life is marred
When we follow lost friends to the old churchyard

But were I at rest 'neath yonder tree
Why would you weep, my friends, for me?
I'm so weary, so wayworn, why would you retard
The peace that I seek in the old churchyard?

Why weep for me, for I'm anxious to go
To that haven of rest where no tears e'er flow?
And I fear not my fate when it's time to depart
I will sail with the sun in the old churchyard

I rest in the hope that one bright day
Sunshine will burst through these prisons of clay
And the trumpets will sound on the hills near and far
Will wake up the dead in the old churchyard

You amaze me. As I've told you...the dulcimer is "your" instrument. Can't wait to hear the next one!
