This Weller WLC100 soldering iron station review shows the benefits of the budget friendly unit. This is not the best soldering iron available, but it has all of the features that I need to get the job done without the extra cost. Check out the website for links and more info. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with Weller! I was considering this station and you may have tipped the scales for me. The breadboard tip is an added bonus in this video. It's an obvious fix that we all know may not seem as obvious in the moment. You earned a new sub :) Very helpful video!

That bread board trick was awesome, never thought about that, thank you for the tip. Cheers

Is there any temperature reference for each setting it has? (i.e. When it is set to 3 = is it around 300 degrees??) Does it come with a chart or anything to help you figure that out? Thanks for any help. New to soldering and I would like to upgrade my iron, this is just the only confusing thing about this iron to me.

I will agree, I’ve had this particular soldering iron for about a year now and it works really well. It’s a soldering iron. My only complaint is where the soldering iron holder, the hot coiled steel thing, that attaches to the plastic base loves to pop out and fall in my lap and burn my crotch. Is there a secret to getting that soldering iron holder in there a little more securely? What am I doing wrong?

Hey there. Very helpful video. I'm curious about the temp control knob. Can you explain when you might use the "1" setting verses the "5" setting, when it comes to various projects and applications?

Wait till you try out a good, modern temperature-controlled (not power-controlled) soldering station. You'll never want to go back. (Better stations also have better selections of tips, including the drag soldering tips that I also find very useful for other things.)

Also, you should invest in some thinner solder. On those headers, nearly every joint has too much solder, which is incredibly easy to do with thicker solder and the ridiculously thin solder pads on so many Chinese PCBs. (I remain baffled at why they do that, when there's plenty of space for larger pads.)

Do you have to “tin” the tip of the iron before you use it?

Thanks for this review, very helpful. I wonder, if I had 2x the budget of this WLC-100, what would you suggest as being of good value?

I feel better about it I bought a Blue Weller too but the first tip was too large

Thanks for the video! I was about to purchase this on Amazon and then found your video so I used your link instead. Do you have a link for a good pair of helping hands? And good solder?

I've got one and I love it. My stem is discolored though. The first job I did with it, I had it set on 40 watts. Has anyone else had this happen?

Does setting the temp at 3.5 on the station essentially make it a 25w iron?

I have the same Weller unit but mine refuses to heat up when connected to the rheostat. The soldering iron works fine by itself...any idea what is wrong?

I looked around and found this:
1 (Low Power) – Around 5 watts (~350°F or 177°C)
2 – Around 10 watts (~450°F or 232°C)
3 (Medium Power) – Around 20 watts (~500-600°F or 260-315°C)
4 – Around 30 watts (~700°F or 370°C)
5 (High Power) – Full 40 watts (~900°F or 482°C)

What I would like to know is what are the actual temperatures on the different settings? That is important to know.
Does anyone know the temperatures?
Thank you

It seems this was made for different brands as its the same as my Katsu and a friend has this under the Vastar brand, exact same save a couple cosmetic differences on the dial plate.

the biggest criticism I've seen on the Internet is it takes too long to heat
