The Super Mario Bros. Movie ~ Fire Flower Fields

I loved the Mario movie and upon rewatching it, I found the "Fire Flower Fields" scene where Princess Peach reveals her backstory to be among my favourite scenes in the film. I don't know why, but there is something so sweet and comforting about this scene, especially the animation, Anya Taylor-Joy's voice work and the music.

I just wanted to say that I really liked how they did go for a full-on romance in this scene between Mario and Peach. I mean yeah it's heavily implied that they are starting to develop feelings toward each other, but they still only just met and I could easily see them being more of an item in future movies. That's really smart on Nintendo and Illumination's part if you ask me!

This scene is just beautiful. Mario's concern for Luigi, Peach assuring Mario they'll save Luigi no matter what (which means the absolute *world* to Mario) Peach opening up to Mario about her past... and then their longing gazes at each other as Toad plays the flute.

Romance wasn't even on their radar, but their hardships brought Mario and Peach closer together. They see each other's strengths and weaknesses, and improve themselves through their interactions. That's what a healthy relationship is all about.

My favorite part in this scene is when Peach looked at Mario with watery eyes. It’s obvious that she wants to believe that she is from Mario’s world. That’s why when she realized he was human, she was excited. When Mario almost died in two occasions, Peach reacted in horror and sadness. It’s clear that she’s in love with him.

Hope their relationship improves in the sequel!

I love how Peach is portrayed in this movie. She is amazingly awesome. She is incredibly beautiful. She is skillfully wise. She is passionately kind. And she has a heart as big as her heart shaped bangs.

The fact that Princess Peach knows how much Mario misses Luigi just warms my heart. She has such a warm and empathetic side to her and her backstory is so sweet. I’m so emotionally invested in these game characters; that’s real movie magic here.

I like the scene, but I really wish this lasted for about a couple more minutes. Not only would it have been the perfect time for Mario, Peach and Toad to fully develop as characters, but also would've been the perfect time for the movie to sit down, relax and give the audience a breather.

I loved every part of this, from the Peach origin story, to Mario still missing his brother, to Toad playing the flute and most likely being a supportive third wheel, to especially the art style and the way the Fire Flower field looks itself! It all just mixes so well together.

I've already said this in another video "Mario crashes Bowser's wedding", but I wanted to say it in this video too.

I noticed something while I was watching the movie. Peach uses a power-up two times in the movie, and the power-ups that she uses are flower themed, and they are used when she is with the two characters who have feelings for her, Bowser and Mario.

When she is with Bowser, she uses an Ice Flower to freeze him and to show him that she will never marry a monster like him.

But when she is with Mario, she uses a Fire Flower while opening up to Mario about herself and her backstory, while subtly developing feelings for him.

It’s like she’s giving Bowser the cold shoulder while being warm towards Mario.

On a side note, she also force feeds them mushroom power-ups for different reasons. With Bowser, she force feeds him a Blue Mushroom, which shrinks him, so she can punish him for all the crimes he has done. But with Mario, she force feeds him a super Mushroom so she can help him overcome his shortcomings to rescue his brother.

Mario is lucky to have Princess Peach by his side after asking her help to save his brother, Luigi. Mario is a real brother and a family. And families belong together.

While I felt they could’ve done a little more, I loved how they did the relationships in this film. Mario and Luigi’s brotherly bond was strong especially since Mario's ultimate goal isn’t to defeat Bowser but save Luigi. I also liked the growing romance between Mario and Peach. They form that bond over being human and it serves as a contrast between Bowser’s “love” for her.
