The Best Characters In David Lynch Movies ➊

Come get lost with us as we rank David Lynchs best characters. While there are many great characters in David Lynch movies, most come in two forms: ordinary people and the truly bizarre people that those ordinary folks come into contact with. As a filmmaker, Lynch is very interested in things happening under the surface. The dreamlike tone of his work hints at danger and violence lurking below the polite facade of society. Blue Velvet, considered by many to be his best film, is a prime example. It tells the story of a young man who is drawn into a dark underworld after finding a severed ear in a field. That picture gave us one of the best David Lynch movie characters -- Frank Booth, memorably played by Dennis Hopper.
Other Lynch films, from Eraserhead to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, have followed a similar path. They have a mysterious quality that sucks you right in. At the same time, Lynch also has the ability to make something like The Straight Story, a G-rated tale about a man who drives his lawn mower from Iowa to Wisconsin.
