Conceived as a prequel to Scott's 1979 science fiction horror film Alien, rewrites of Spaihts's script by Lindelof developed a separate story that precedes the events of Alien, but which is not directly connected to the films in the Alien franchise. According to Scott, though the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", and takes place in the same universe, Prometheus will explore its own mythology and ideas. Principal photography began in March 2011, with filming taking place in Canada, England, Scotland, Iceland, and Spain. Prometheus is scheduled for release between May 30 and June 8, 2012 in various territories through 20th Century Fox.
In the late 21st century, a star map is discovered within the imagery of Aztec, Mesopotamian and Magdalenian cultures. The crew of the spaceship Prometheus is sent on a scientific expedition to follow the map as part of a mission to find the origins of mankind. Exploring the advanced civilization of an extraterrestrial race, they soon face a threat to humanity's very existence.

Prometheus is an upcoming science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron. The plot follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus in the year 2085, as they explore an advanced alien civilization in search of the origins of humanity.

This is better than the actual film. They should have hired you as the editor for the theatrical release. And the music here is better than the music in the film. 10/10.

I don't really care about getting clues to the movie. The narrative should be a surprise. BUT... this was just... gorgeous. I sat mesmerized. I'd much rather watch the movie like this instead of all cut up and machine-gun paced. This turned it from a summer sci-fi flick into a work of art.

This entire super slow-mo idea is fascinating. They used pixel vector averaging software to arrive at the frames that would be 'between' the 24 fps all footage was originally shot with, and then filled in those space, and likely a third time. Really interesting stuff...

The trailers for this have been far better than the actual movie (as usual). As current sci-fi goes, it is run-of-the-mill (which includes great effects), edited poorly, caricatures as characters (except for the android), and completely forgettable. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy seeing it on the big screen. But this movie is NOT genius, and has no business being compared to or connected to the original Alien, which was in fact genius, scary, and will never be forgotten.

IMHO, the reason the trailer seems better than the movie to some people is because the music in the trailer is so much more effective - more sinister, etc. The movie soundtrack was trying to be "heroic" prob mandated by Scott, trying to instill awe, reverence, and wonder. Just a .02 personal observation.

There are actually a couple deleted scenes on the bluray that really flesh out his character. It's a shame they got cut. But yes, them getting lost was strange. I guess you could say they were uploading the maps to the prometheus and then couldn't access them because of the storm? It's a stretch, I know.

Alot of people not happy with sum of the acting, script and such, I can understand this, 1 thing thats bugged me was the fifield character, mainly that he is a geologist and studies rocks, so Im simply amazed he never noticed that green amber like fossil/rock, that Holloway noticed at that type of altar thing under the mural.

this is going to be awesome - Ridley Scott is part of the reason I got into film, he wouldn't do this unless the story was right - and I get the feeling I will be seeing this more than once at the cinema. Well done Ridley and team - it looks majestic....

Glad to hear it! People think a "plot hole" is when something happens that they don't like or understand, when they are actually just suffering the consequences of not paying attention to the goddamn movie instead of checking their phones.
