Physical media has actually had a boom in the last couple years, just not in store retail, through online shopping and boutique labels there are a lot of options out there, to include remasters of a lot of classic movies that you can’t get on streaming

Until streaming gets better I’ll stick to my physical media.

My friends think I'm crazy when I talk about home theater equipment. I recently upgraded my LCR, and gave my old LCR away to a good friend. I was hoping that, he would try and use them correctly. Went over his house one day, he had DJ speakers as his left and right speakers, with a small toshiba center speaker. Then is wife told me that, he was putting the speakers I gave him, inside his garage workshop. LMAO!!! Oh well, I tried bringing someone into the world of home theater

You made some great points. My son is 32 and as long as the picture and sound is decent he's good but I on the other hand want the best picture and sound I can afford in my home theater

I don't think that either home theater or movies theaters are in trouble. I still occasionally will go to my local theater for some of the bigger budget action movies that should have a good soundtrack. I do have a sweet atmos living room theater setup with cocentric drivers in every speaker and 2-21 inch subwoofers for bass. In terms of frequency response and tactile bass, I'm sure my setup is better than most commercial theater setups, but there is something about the sense of scale, visually and audio wise, that my home and most people's home theaters just cannot replicate unless they live in a mansion with a super huge, expensive theater room.

Home theater will go the way Vinyl records went. It will go away and come roaring back with the re-emergence of physical media. People want to own things and streaming is a temporary fad. The first major crash of the internet world wide will show people they are paying for vaporware. I have over 300 dvd and blu ray concerts and they are worth a fortune today on eBay. Build it and they will come.

For now I just keep building my physical media collection. If they keep raising the price of physical media discs they are going to price me out of the market though. I'm still not going to want to go to streaming. I'll just have to be content going back through my collection. It's not like the studios are producing much worth watching or buying these days anyway.

Hollywood is killing the home theater experience. Crappy movies, HORRIBLE transfers on to Blu-Ray. Ultimately Home theater is lacking quality content. I've been regulated to watching old movies because everything new is BASURA.

130" AT 2.35:1 screen, a projector with lens memory, and around 800 blu-ray and 4k disks. I can't imagine not having this. No going back for me, personally.

You should do movie reviews on 4k blurays would be nice. There’s so many good 4k disks out there I can’t stop buying movies since i love quality and the fact that i own the movie.

I definitely don't think home theatre is in trouble, i get what your saying but it has always been a niche. If anything i think advances in tech will make it more appealing. Wireless equipment, wireless speakers all the visuals and sound with less visual impact when not in use! Yeah its never going away, it will just get better and appeal to more people!

I do enjoy going to the movies and watching certain movies on the BIG SCREEN; however, I like the comfort of my home and I am way past the soundbar stage, yes I do use like in the bedroom or living room when I am in those rooms watching normal television. When I am ready to watch a movie I always go to my dedicated room.

I hope not! There’s nothing better than coming home and girding up ur system with great pic and sound! I’m very lucky that I have 2 great systems in my main room and bedroom! I just picked up another Panny UB-9000 to replace an Oppo-103D. The Upscaling on this Panny is wonderful! I’m gonna start paying more attention to IMAX enhanced movies for the perfect sound and pic! This Christmas my wife gave me the OK for a bigger display. I’m gonna go from a 65 inch to 100 inches! I can’t wait !

I have pretty good stuff with an Anyhem/-90 and Parasound Mono Blocks and a 5 channel amp for my Center/rears! I also use an ES-A6-ME for streaming.

In my bedroom I have me a Klipsch 7.2 system! My systems really sound good! Thx! 0:15

I have to disagree with you. I see this very differently. ENTRY-LEVEL home theater has never been more affordable/attainable. A simple 5.1 system does great with streaming and gaming. The more hardcore people with dedicated spaces and > 5.1 setups still buy discs, have kaleidoscape, etc. They have always been a niche group and always will be. They know the difference between streaming audio quality and disc quality. I think that the big deal here is good content. We need immersive content to make people want to go beyond tv speakers and beyond a sound bar.

Share your enthusiasm for HT and demo it to others, grow the passion. Soundbar sells to cost sensitive buyers and those that dont know how they can do way better.. this generation is a need to hear & see it before they believe it.. so, you can talk about it all day long, but until they actually experience it, its just blah blah blah to them

No home theatre is not dying but the commercial theatre’s are dying.Home theatre is just changing to simplicity no need for physical media that’s what the masses want regular people companies understand this

Good morning, you make a great point. One thing that ticked me off yesterday was I received my new hard copy magazine of Sound & Vision, still love reading the print version. On the cover their was a separate page telling me this was their last issue and they will no longer be doing a print version or digital version. I was not happy, I have been receiving over time every Home Theatre magazine that ever came out, if it includes video, audio, movies, home theatre etc. I wanted it. Now as far as I can tell unless I find an international subscription this is the last for the U.S.A. The cover said if you have a subscription you will automatically be subscribed to Stereophile magazine, well I am already...if you already have this subscription then it will be extended. Still doesn't matter to me, that magazine is good but they never talk theatre or video, only can't even afford what's in the magazine, but it is nice to dream and see what others have. I just hope to see in the future some more subscriptions that deal with what we are all into.

Certain streaming services are trying to catch up with implementing certain sound codecs. I will watch and listen, but, physical media is the way to go if you have a dedicated HT. I have a 5.4.6 setup, and love it.

Great points. I think one other point, at least for me, is that movies just aren't very good right now. What movies do you actually want to go out and buy right now. Not that much comes to mind, unfortunately...

I thought it was just me. The 4k out there offered through streaming media suck. I have a Samsung.
Neo and my blu-ray 4K is beautiful.
