Hey! Great video, but a couple things to note-- The recast parts are thinner because the silicone molds are overly compressed with rubberbands, usually because they use cheap silicone for the molds that aren't a high enough durometer and the molds deform during casting. They generally look (glossy) and smell worse because they overspray mold release in an effort to make the molds last longer (for more castings) before they finally tear out and have to be tossed. All recast parts, if you get stuck with them, should be washed with soap and water before priming to remove this somewhat. Reference: I use to work work as a mold designer for multiple miniatures companies. :)

I used to buy a lot of recasts back in the day before 3D-printing was a thing. (Because I had a tight budget and really wanted a great unclean one)
I usually had no problems with faulty casts.

I sadly can't say the same thing about FW... let's just say I rarely had a delivery that went smoothly.
I either have to get in touch with them to replace parts, because a part is not cured correctly, warped too much, got broken in transit or are just missing.
Their support also seems to be very unknowledgeable about the products they're selling. I had trouble with one of the Kytans I bought from FW (base was missing), they took 4 attempts to get me the right base, while the base size was listed on their website!

All in all, I would say buy a 3D-printer instead of a big forge world model, you'll get a lot more bang for your bug out of that.

Why not show the actual model parts for comparison. Or get yourself a decent recaster. Forgeworld replacement? My friend needed a forgeworld part for his warhound, it took 2 months to get it

That's not exactly true about a recast being worse quality then the original.
The better recasters actually repair the crap FW puts out resulting in a cleaner better model.
Recasters also change out their molds and repair them vastly more often then FW does.

Man whoever you got those recasts from is trash.
There are way better recasters out there then that. Ones that make FW stuff look like trash.
I have a massive recast custodes army fully painted and it's absolutely indistinguishable from the real thing.
So much so that I compete in painting competitions and placed top 5.

Every recaster I know offers refunds or a replacement if you get a faulty cast. Also Russians and Spaniards tend to do better than Chinese casters.

It's frustrating that they aren't transparent about stocks and availability with their products. Really leaning towards recasters but it's hard to put in faith that an a international order that might not have the quality. On that note, I've bought what I believe is an oop FW Chinrok warkopta off ebay but it's all in plastic. Does anyone know if recasters also make plastic models?

I feel a bit bad for the guy that sold the model to you for 40 dollars as that person lost out on 360 dollars

Solid video, informative but admittedly I own an elagoo mars and dont buy models usually these days. I just think GW is just to predatory and tight lipped to be supported.

I have bought recasts intentionally in the past, and the results have been middling, my Y'vhara went together alright but hazard suits and infantry where almost a nonestarter. If your cash strapped and want to finish or start something go for it but unless you want a 300 dollar machine and toxic resin in your garage real models are still the best thing to field.
