People are attracted to Prescott, Arizona for many reasons. But even though the city maintains the characteristics of a charming, western town, it’s not for everyone. Among other things, big city amenities are lacking, and even though the weather is considered mild year-round, some find an occasional snowstorm a bit more than they can take. Here are five reasons you might NOT want to move to “Everybody’s Hometown.”

I passed through Prescott. Stayed a few hours. But I will return! I loved it.

I was raised in Prescott. Lived next to the high school downtown. So many fun memories. Moved to CA but still miss Prescott.

No disrespect on AZ Kilted Realtor,

I was born at the Yavapai hospital in Prescott on willow creek Rd. I walked from my home to and went to Miller valley grade school before it was a parking lot. I walked to Prescott high school before those black prison walls were built and could enjoy the freedom of open campus. I knew those streets and back alleys as a teenager. NO WAY I WOULD DO THAT NOW because of the BOOM of everyone else moving to the town I once loved. We use to ENJOY thumb butte and the hiking in the areas. I left because of all the people moving in. The town I knew changed and im happy I left. I WISH the town was what i knew before the rolled in and destroyed the economy.

People don’t love thy neighbors anymore.
neighbors love money and corruption.
The town of Karens.

Prescott is broken and is not for the blue collar Americans like it was.

Imagine everyone you don’t like moving to your home town or your neighborhood and ruining what it was. That’s what Prescott is.

It's fine if you just sold your multi-million dollar home in Cali, then you could afford to live here, but for working class people the only jobs are retail, hospitality or construction, to build more homes for more people to move here. To rent here on a cashiers salary, forget about it!

Prescott was once a nice city in the 70’s and prior, not so much any more. Whiskey Row is mostly gift shops and crowded sidewalks. The traffic is horrendous, and they replaced the Sambos with Denny’s. Don’t even think about going to Lynx Lake, it’s completely commercialized and crowded.

What about a acre or 2 outside the city ? Is there some good deals there ?

To be clear, you take Rt 17 North from Phoenix/Scottsdale to get to the exit for Prescott (I think about 75 miles), then it is about 30 miles to the town square. You go through Prescott Valley first which feels more like a lengthy strip mall. But the town is charming and while real estate prices are rising (as they are everywhere), there is still land/real estate available within reason. The surrounding area is beautiful and rich with Southwestern culture and history, and wildlife. Stay at the Hassayampa Hotel in the town square to see if you get visited by the ghosts - the hotel is haunted! We live in North Scottsdale, and have considered relocating but the major drawback is the distance back to Phoenix. If you travel, then you will likely travel back to Sky Harbor Airport. The only major commercial airline that flies out of Prescott Regional Airport is United. If that works for you then great. Also, medical facilities, doctor availability should be considered. We have friends that live there year round, and some that have second homes. The last time we were there a herd of pronghorn antelope trotted across the road in front of us. So you can make it work if you want to, to get away from the big city life.

I believe the weather is not a negative point. Having 4 seasons is better than blazing hot Phoenix.

Well Dammit. You make sound so rough for someone looking to find a place to retire to. Might have to make a second thought of northern MI woods
