RULE 1=IF YOU ARE GOING TO WEAR A HELMET ; WEAR A FULL FACE HELMET.
RULE 2 =IF YOU CHOOSE TO WEAR A HALF HELMET AND ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT; REMEMBER TO TURN THE PROTECTED PART OF YOUR HEAD TOWARDS THE DIRECTION OF IMPACT. IF YOU THINK THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO ACCOMPLISH THIS DURING AN ACCIDENT ; SEE RULE 1.
Don't be stupid; a half helmet is half of a helmet....ALL OF YOUR HEAD IS IMPORTANT TO YOU; RIGHT?

Great video joe!! I tend to wear a half helmet when it is hot. My full face helmet (Shoei) is for rain and cooler weather. The full face is definitely safer.

You didn’t spend a ton of time on wind noise, but hearing damage is very real. Aside from half helmets offering less protection, you have a greater chance of experiencing hearing damage. Ear plugs should always be worn.

To me, it's a personal choice, just like riding a motorcycle in the first place.
If safely is your main priority, don't ride a motorcycle, drive a car or truck it's a lot safer.
But that's not the reason I ride my motorcycles,
I ride to enjoy being out in the open and enjoying the scenery around me.
The mountains or the coastal roads and winding country roads.
I personally wear a half helmet most of the time.
If there's a chance of inclement weather, I can strap a full helmet to my bike and take it alone with me.
I have three Harleys a 1978 flh bobber, 1991 springer softtail, and a 1992 Electraglide ultra classic.
Again, it's your choice, and I'm not going to tell anyone what to wear or not to wear.
This is a free country, and freedom of choice is one of the foundations of our country.
P.S. I really enjoy your videos.
I'm 61 years old, and I'm always willing to learn about motorcycle skills and riding safely.

I don’t mind the bugs and I love the wind. The wind is why I ride. I got rid of my street glide because I wanted wind. If I wanted comfort …I would ride in my truck. Riding a street glide or road glide is basically like riding in a compact car. I wear the half helmet because I feel like I can’t hear or see to the side in a full face. I’m also claustrophobic. Lol

Simple imo if your cruising in not so high speed with your buddy's and just enjoying the scenery I'd say half/open face helmet but if your going in the highways and going for long rides which include higher speeds I'd wear a fullface in the end of the day it's the riders choice!

Good video and good information. The one thing I would add is, the half helmet is easier to throw in saddlebags and lock it up when you go into a store. The half helmet is nice on the hot days, but I still prefer a full face.

understand all the safety pluses, but sometimes if conditions are right the freedom of no helmet or half helmet is the way to go. 2 different worlds between both helmets.

To me it’s completely weather dependent. If the weather is perfect for it, half helmet is amazing. Particularly on low speed cruising. Now any other time, full face.

Great comparison. 👍. I prefer the full face, or even a half helmet with a full shield on it. I’ve been saved from rocks and debris numerous times.

I’ve never worn a half helmet but used an open face heaps, and off-road oriented full faces and modular.

The hands down best part of an open face is the freedom feeling and being able to be friendly, smile and say hi to everyone.

I really don’t like full faces that are closed in tight and claustrophobic

hear me out.... dirt-bike helmet, you can breath and hear better than a full face but has more protection than a half helmet, and almost all of them are dot approved

I use to wear half-helms all the time. I switched to a modular full-face several years ago. Believe it or not, the full-face is cooler than the half-helm because it keeps the sun off of your skin. Also, with the full-face, you’re protected from road elements such as rocks, bugs, etc. This is a great video and I highly recommend full-facet helmets. If you have a large round head like mine, try the modular for ease of putting on and taking off. Safe rides!

Great video. My only issue is finding a full face or modular that fits. I wear a 3x bell half helmet. I have tried literally 2 dozen modular and full face and can’t find one that fits. Frustrating

I used a full DS helmet for a while. I liked i most of the time. Quiet, calm inside and with a dark shield great sun protection. Got caught in a cold rain on one ride. Colder and heavier rain as I rode (it turned to snow in tge night). Face shield fogged up. I cracked open the shield to clear it and rain dripped down from the top. Wet inside and out. I could only get my fingers in about an inch to clear the inside. Couldn't see. I wear an open with a flat or flip shield. There is room to reach a gloved hand inside to clear the shield. Rode in snow and freezing rain with the flip shield. Worked well. In extreme heat I can't stand a full helmet. I use a half once in a while but it doesn't work very good with a face shield.

I kind of have a preference for modular. Full-Face when I ride and open it up when I need to

Use The one you Like, There is no one pleases all . If i was cursing i did not wear one at all, If i was traveling on a bagger i wore a Half Helmet If i was Meeting The guys that ride like a Bat out of Hell i wore a Expensive Ara, Leathers with Knee Draggers on Back Kevlar Good leather Gloves, and you know you only get one high speed Head on with a tree guardrail or vehicle, have has several slides High sides but i had on the gear No gear will help a head on .

Full face limits peripheral vision so you are more likely to get into a crash, is twice as heavy, can trap insects that will sting you when riding, fog up, lever the helmet to wrench your neck when hitting the ground.

Been wearing a haft face for a few years after seeing a friend eat shit with his full face I was surprised how well the helmet held up and his face was unharmed. Alot of damage was around rhe bottom of the helmet. So now I ride with a full.
