I personally found this to be helpful:
1. Determine whether its's dominant or recessive? How? Dominant is present in every generation while recessive skips generations
2. Determine whether it is autosomal or sex-linked? How? Autosomal affects both genders equally while sex-linked affects mostly one gender.
