For anyone trying to boot into safe mode. Do the it the easier and less risky way, wait for the startup to finish, then you'll see the sign in option, in the bottom corner you'll see a power icon. Hold shift button and click restart, then you'll see a blue menu, click "startup settings". You're welcome!

THANK YOU! I just did a huge windows 10 update last night and woke up to my computer having this issue. I was afraid that I had lost everything. This worked to get me back into my computer. The repair did find corrupted files to fix. A note to others, I got a lot of notifications that the default apps for opening certain file types was reset to default. My files that I had worked on the previous use were still there. I was able to shut down my computer and start it up again normally afterwards.

Even when am in safe mode it’s says the user profile service failed to sign-in when am trying to sign in my account.( I kept unplugging my pc from the cord which caused the files to corrupt now nothing is working for me I’ve been trying for 3 hours, am on windows 11 please help)

Thank you. For those of you who get into the profile list folder in regedit and you don't see 2 similar files. This was my case. I selected the longest names one and the changed the state file to "zero" i didn't see a ref file so I just restarted and problem was fixed. Thanks so much for this.

I had only one .bak file
Could not restart in safe mode but in cmd i was able to restart with shutdown /r . Issue still remains. Please help on that.
