The move is seemingly an attempt to narrow what had been an unprecedented trade war between the U.S. and most of the world to one between the U.S. and China.

And China ready to counter with 105% tariff on US goods.

there are 50 Chinatowns in cities all over the USA and the whole products are imported from China, middle, class people, go there to shop because is barely cheap, but after high tariff, will be expensive

Even if we build the plants here and make things at home it's a logistical nightmare, since we don't materials to make whatever we need.

OH NO, we can't bring jobs back to the USA because a Playstation 5 would be too expensive!
This passes for logic these days for the "experts".

Judging by the comments, it's clear VERY few Amerikans understand the concept of free trade and the true purpose of tariffs

America needs a true leader at President, not an eight year old trapped in the body of a 79 year old playing dictator.

Let's be real. That "made in China" couch gets too expensive because of Tariffs. Companies buy "Made in India, Vietnam, Mexico, etc. instead. Or buy US made, save on shipping and eliminate tariffs altogether. The US sells China soybeans, corn, wheat, pork. China doesn't buy as much, grocery prices here in teh US go down. China doesn't buy coal, US power plants buy it cheaper, electric prices go down where coal is still used.

Doesn't matter how much manufacturing returns to the United States. First you have to build the new factories to make the product, pay American wages which are far more than what they pay people in other parts of the world and find workers that will want to do that repetitive work. What would happen is anything that can be automated will be automated which won't create a lot of new jobs. Much like the Chinese youth that are refusing to work in factories so would our own youth. And imposing tariffs on products now still mean it's still cheaper than going through all the process of building a new factory, training a new work force and paying that workforce.

While I understand the overall goal of what is wanted, it feels at times there are alterative motives to weaken the US dollar, so much so that countries that use it will be forced to renegotiate. People have come so accustomed to cheap goods and high pay, when this manufacturing returns, they will pay even high prices once they see how much cost to unit goes up. Now some companies could absorb the tariff on goods, but why? They will want to keep their margins, make their shareholders happy and raise prices to compensate then when tariffs go back to normal the prices will remain high because "We the People" have shown we are willing to pay it.

5, 000 years ago, we faced floods just as the Egyptians did. 4, 000 years ago, we cast bronze artifacts alongside the Babylonians. 3, 000 years ago, we pondered philosophy with the Greeks. 2, 000 years ago, we waged heroic wars like the Romans. 1, 000 years ago, we thrived in wealth as the Arabs did.
Today, we stand toe-to-toe with USA.

For five millennia, Chinese people have remained at the world’s table, while our rivals have risen and fallen, one wave after another.

So, can we start introducing horticulture, agriculture, checks and balances, home economics and shop-etc back to our youth studies, and cut the lgbtq bs? Give them a better chance to survive and use their creativity for something valuable?
