Their hunting technique involves watching their surroundings from a perch and then swooping down to catch their prey using their sharp beak. They are fast fliers and can accurately dive into the water to catch small aquatic insects or snatch prey from the ground.

So while the Hawaiian kingfisher is an excellent fisher in terms of catching smaller aquatic creatures, it doesn't actively engage in fishing for larger fish like some other bird species.
