Toyota brought the Crown name back to the US and our guys felt quite differently about it. Now they've added a wagon version to the lineup with the name - Signia. As part of a mass product launch in San Diego, we got a chance to test drive the Signia right after the new Toyota Camry. Join us for the a discussion of what this new model gets right and how it compares to the sedan version.

6.7" of ground clearance. So close to a wagon. Keep in mind the "lifted" buick regal tourX was 5.8". Thats now a proper car by comparison. But closer than the 8.1" on the outback and Volvo V60 cross-country

GR version lowered to 5" and some form of iforce max powertrain would be a spicy family hauler

Spicy in the way kids think mint toothpaste is spicy, but still something

There is a Camry wagon, in that same color, just down the street from me. It's in good shape, no real rust showing. It won't die, it seems.

Guys thanks for this excellent review! You answered exactly what I wanted to know about this vehicle. I currently own a 2017 RAV4 hybrid. I’m 6’5”. When I first bought that car getting into and out of it wasn’t a problem. My joints have stiffened as I am turning 65. I wanted to trade in for something easier to get in and out of. You perfectly addressed that, and the ride height! I was thinking about going with a Camry XLE, but I think that Crown Signia will be a better fit. I truly appreciate you both. I’m glad I subscribed! 🫡

I can see the ads for the GR crown now: "It's the GR corolla... But GRown up"😂

I've actually been waiting for this to start showing up at dealerships so I can test-drive. I'm currently looking for a replacement for my 12-year-old Outback.

As a RAV4 Prime owner, hoping this comes with Toyota's PHEV drivetrain at some point in the future, 300+ HP and plug ability would be a great option for this vehicle.

I'm a current Lexus IS owner who was looking to move up to a Lexus SUV and now that I've discovered the Crown Signia I'm no longer considering a Lexus. This car ticks all the boxes now that Toyota is improving their interiors. I can't wait to test drive it. Great review, thanks guys!

My first 4 vehicles were a Volvo wagon, a 300zx, a VW Golf, and a 1985 RX7. all were hatchbacks. Now I have an RX8, an is300, an E28 533i, and I'm shopping for a z3. So I went from all hatchbacks to all trunks. One thing I've noticed, I used to be MUCH better about not leaving things in my trunk indefinitely. Out of sight, out of earshot when I take the corner, out of mind.

Our family had a 1995 Toyota Camry Wagon V6 LE. The Camry Wagon had a rear facing 3rd row which as a kid growing up in one was like luxury. Always a wagon fan ever since (currently driving a 2002 IS300 SportCross).

Thank you for calling it a wagon! As a big fan of wagons and hatchbacks, I will never understand the aversion to the term since they are so practical and way more fun to drive than SUVs. I would seriously consider it if it weren't a CVT . Reliability concerns aside, I just don't like the way they feel/drive.

Spiritual successor to the original Venza is the hybrid Outback Subaru won't make. That interior would have been home in a Lexus 5 years back. Toyota did well here.

Great review. And how did I not see the “GR-own” coming?

Had 7 Subarus including 4 Outbacks, one Crosstrek(least favorite), one Forester, and my original one the 1993 Impreza front wheel drive which I used studded snow tires on and it was great. I am considering this Crown Signia due to size, wagonlike bearing, awd, hybrid, and the fact that the closest Subaru dealer is 2 plus hours in every direction, but there is a Toyota dealer within 50 miles. I am like the grandparents from Calgary... but it is a little too rich for my blood and not sure about tires. I run all terrrain tires on my 2020 Outback with 75, 000 miles. Bring on the Outback hybrid soon Subaru or I will have to seek alternatives as we are a one vehicle family living in the middle of nowhere and do not want to break down. Original cars in the 80's were Hondas but their CRV did not have a good enough AWD system and slipped in snow and got stuck in mud that the Subaru would have had no trouble with. Also had Civics and a Honda Wagon using studded snow tires in Vermont but now in altitude of New Mexico. A little concerned about ground clearance as well. We do not always plow or shovel our road in every snowstorm and it can have quite a bit of snow that we plow our Outback through just barely...

Hi, from Japan!! I’m glad that it seems you two were not involved in other dangerous drivers again in San Diego. The name of the car is Crown Estate here in Japan. It’s funny it happens often car names are different in each countries. Well, 4 types of Crown exist here in Japan. One of these named Crown Sports is like more sports styled SUV so there is possibility that the car would be adopted in U.S. instead of GR Crown Signia.

I'm gonna wait for the refresh of this for the 5th Gen hybrid. This is coming after the Camry so they could have done it. I'm in love man. The price is a bit of a problem for me but I'll start saving for that bigger deposit

The crown sedan reminds me of the David Byrne shoulder pad suit. This looks nice and I’m interested in it as step up from our Alltrack wagon.

The color comes across as a dirty blue. Ive seen it in all three and i think its better in red - personal opinion
