Over 12 million South Africans live below the average poverty line

Just over 12 million South Africans live below the average poverty line. Most households depend on social grants while many more don't have an income at all.

Poverty has also been identified as a pandemic by academic and social activists. What can be done to improve the lives of South Africans? Commissioner of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Pulane Molokwane weighs in.
