Actually I thought they entered limbo as soon as they were exploring anything remotely related to hell and then as they went further down they were in the lower layers beyond limbo You know cuz it's based off of Dante's inferno

I remember watching this movie with my friends and at the end *spoilers* they opened up the man hole and I thought the entrance to hell was just a little man hole you go through until they literally entered Paris and they were in hell the whole time what a shock!
