The most problem I have with paraphrasing is that most statements that I want to paraphrase have these, I think, "essential words" in them, especially with scientific papers that synonyms for some words could not equate to the degree of the words used in the original statement.

I realized that I do most of what you said however for every new article or dissertation, at the start, I always feel out of my depth. But procrastination is never a good thing.
The video is very useful, I will refer back as I start this journey

Plagiarism is the most annoying part of uni. Not only do you have to write a paper, but reference the entire thing 😅

Thank you so much, this topic is so timely as I am studying a degree with the OU, presently on my second year. I am studying an education degree full-time which has four TMAs, I find it quite scary because I always feel I don’t much after reading the text. However, I am going to really adopt your strategies as I have two assignments due in two to three weeks time.
I would love some tips on referencing, that’s my worst nightmare 😬 Thank you for sharing, keep up the good work!😍😊😊🙏🏾

Active sentences are characterized by the subject performing the action expressed by the verb, resulting in clearer and stronger writing. Passive sentences reverse the structure, positioning the object before the verb, leading to weaker and less direct expressions. Here are some examples demonstrating the distinction between active and passive voice sentences:

Active Voice:

1. The dog bit John. (Subject = Dog, Verb = bit, Object = John)
* In this example, the subject ("dog") performs the action ("bit"), directly affecting the object ("John").
2. She wrote a letter. (Subject = She, Verb = wrote, Object = letter)
* Here, the subject ("she") carries out the action ("wrote"), generating the outcome (letter).
3. My brother painted our living room wall yesterday. (Subject = Brother, Verb = painted, Object = wall)
* In this case, the subject ("brother") executes the act ("painted"), modifying the state of the object ("wall").

Passive Voice:

1. John was bitten by the dog. (Subject = John, Verb = was bitten, Agent = the dog)
* This passive voice construction places emphasis on the recipient of the action instead of the actor itself, introducing ambiguity regarding who carried out the bite.
2. A letter was written by her. (Subject = Letter, Verb = was written, Author = Her)
* Reversing the roles weakens the statement, obscuring the person responsible for composing the letter.
3. Our living room wall was painted by my brother yesterday. (Subject = Wall, Verb = was painted, Painter = My brother)
* Using the passive voice shifts attention away from the person taking action (my brother), diminishing his contribution and making the text seem indirect.

In general, favor active voice in writing since it produces crisper and more dynamic expressions, enhancing clarity and conciseness. Reserve passive voice constructions for instances requiring special emphasis on objects or concealing information about agents involved in actions.
