I am Brazilian chef and we eat collard greens with black eyed peas as well. I would like to suggest to you, to save the steams and make rice. Don’t waste the steams!! You can make soups or chopped all and make rice. In Brazil we eat lentils for a new Year Eve!! Tomorrow I will black eyed peas salad.
Happy New Year!!!

I’m a 74 yr old black woman born in Ohio, but grew up on my southern Georgia mama’s cooking. It amazes me that I never had collards and black eyed peas cooked together. It looks delicious. I’m going to try it soon. Right now, we’re having black eyed peas and sauerkraut and pork (cooked separately 🤣) for this 2025 NewYears Day. Love your channel.

My Mom was from Memphis and one of her favorite recipes to make was Black eyed peas with ham hocks. She’s with the Lord now but I have adopted this meal as my family tradition for New Years hoping to pass on the same love my Mom gave to me through this recipe.

Grew up with neither of my parents knowing much about cooking until i was maybe 17! So of course, they didnt teach me anything. Now at 29 with two babies… im learning on my own made southern collards and your mac n cheese… turned out so good.

Afree seeing this video, i made this recipe the next day. It came out so good! Between prepping the collards, cooking the turkey leg, and then doing the main cook it took a bit of time, but that added to how much fun this dish was to make. I used my grandmother's dutch oven, so that made the process even more enjoyable - it was like being in her kitchen again. What great memories!
