I played this game when I was in a hard time in therapy and it made so much sense to me. I know people say it's her mother she lost but I think Gris lost herself, her voice, and in the end she finds it again. Very beautiful game and really emotional

Je viens de finir le jeu, enfin je viens de finir de vivre cet art magnifique et je suis venue ici retrouver l'émotion que j'ai ressenti sur le moment, toujours aussi beau à mon coeur. I just realized that in Gris pt. 1 the lower voice at the beginning is probably her mother, and the higher one that comes in after is Gris harmonizing. Then in Gris pt.2 there's only a high voice, just Gris singing by herself.

Woooow, this is a very deep game, from this passage I sobbed, the message is very deep. I saw in this finding myself. The game is really deep and I think it can even help me get out of depression. There is a lot of hope in this game. The main thing is to let me open up and accept this help.

Fantastic game even though there's sorrow but it's like seeing art magically come to life if you keep believing there's always hope for the future
so the 5 stages of grief, the statues are her mother somehow died (cancer or Illness) and this is the girls mind going through the struggles of having to cope with it all
in the end the girl sends her mother spirit free into the heavens stars to move on and be happy, she walk to the stars and awakens from her dream.

Here are my thoughts on what’s happening here.
So right off the bat, I don’t think it’s Gris who is dead, as much as I like that interpretation. The games description says that Gris is lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience, of course this is the passing of her mother. Also, throughout the game we see Gris devlope. We see her learn to stand strong when unlocking the cube ability and making it through the storm. We see her escape the black substance multiple times, we see her regain her voice. We watch her make it through the stages of grief. If it was her mother who was still alive, I’m not sure why we would see Gris going through so much.
Now for my interpretation
I believe the statue represents Gris’s view of her mother, and the black substance represented the dread that comes with her mothers death. Throughout the game, there are many statues of Gris’s mother, honestly if anything I think these could represent the memories she does have of her mother, but still tainted by the reminder of her death evident by the cracks in all of them. Even When unlocking yellow Gris finds a full statue of her mother, who opens its eyes, a false moment of safety, before the fact that her mother died comes back, destroying the statue, but this time it doesn’t consume her, and Gris is able to escape, for now. Then the end. I believe when Gris regains her singing voice it represents living life. In the beginning, the death of her mother is so impactful that Gris falls deep into despair, likely unable to do much of anything due to the pain. But in the end, she regains herself, and as she sings, and the statue of her mother comes together, I believe this represents Gris’s perception of her mother healing. Of course she can still remember her mother, but her perception at this point is stuck at her mother being dead. The black substance wrapping around her, as she fights against the unmovable fact of her mothers death. But in the end she is finally able to go forward, remembering her mother as she was when she was alive, before going forward, right before giving her a kiss on the cheek. (Metaphorically)
Anyways i think i wrote too much about this lmao i just really like this game
