The New Testament places a very high estimate on John the Baptist and his ministry.

He was the greatest figure yet produced under the old covenant, according to Matthew 11:11.

Jesus said of him in Luke 7:28, "I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John." And Hebrews 11:39 tells us he epitomized all the Old Testament saints who stood at the threshold of the new order without entering in.

John's great importance lies in the fact that he bridged the old era and the new and was the link between the two.

He was not a member of a Baptist denominational church, but lived a life away from the mainstream, in the wilderness and yet in touch with people. John was a man of God, bringing light, liberty and love to those who followed the way of the Lord.

The odd thing to me and the story that NT portrays about the relationship between Jesus and John the Baptist is strange because normally when you get Baptized, you get initiated into that faith. It would imply that Jesus was a follower of John the Baptist. Then I wonder why isn't there any record of Jesus Baptizing anyone or least Jesus was not actively going around Baptizing people, considering how important it is in Christianity.

Guys the truth is John the Baptist was related to Jesus.John the Baptist in the previous years of was preparing everybody to follow Jesus.

John the Baptist was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets because he was the one who was supposed to tell all of Israel that the Messiah had come. When he baptized Jesus, he handed over all of the foundation of the Old Testament to Jesus. John had waited for the Messiah all of his life. Yet, when God told him that Jesus was the Messiah, what did John do? He walked away. Who was the most qualified to be Jesus' chief disciple? It wasn't an ignorant fisherman, but John, who had many followers already. If John followed Jesus, then his followers would go with them. But, he didn't, failing his main course. So, Jesus had to fulfill what John should have done. That's why John died a non-heroic death. Jesus said that there was none who was greater than John, but he who was least in Heaven, the last person in Heaven, was greater than John the Baptist. Just like Moses was not allowed into Canaan, John was not allowed into Heaven.

John the Baptist was the greatest of the Old Testament prophets, because he was the one who was supposed to testify directly about the Messiah. But, after God told him that Jesus was the Messiah, John walked away. Why? He was looking for the Messiah all of his life, yet when God showed him the Messiah, he walked away and died a shameful death. This has never been explained fully. Jesus said that those born of women, none were greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the Kingdom of Heaven, is greater than John. Because John walked away, he was not allowed into Heaven.

After they left they saw Jesus and John up river and they were playing some kind of naked dunking game. So Peter says, "Hey, what are you guys doing?" Jesus and John were caught off guard so John says, "Oh... um.... I'm dunking Jesus in the river like that story we heard in school about Achilles. You know, make him immortal." So the guys kinda say, "Oh, ok, whatever." As they are walking away Peter says, "Those two are always playing grab ass somewhere while the rest of us men are spying on the ladies." Then Paul says, "That John guy is Batshit Crazy, and now he's playing some naked dunking game with Jesus. I mean.... not that there's anything wrong with that." So from then on they referred to John as "John the Batshit". Move ahead a few centuries, several different language translations of the story, and "Batshit" became "Baptist". So basically the Baptist religion is based on some Baptist, aka "Batshit", naked guys dunking each other in a river.
