It was only a matter of time before Makeup Revolution's business practices caught up with them. Now their stock shares are going down in value, they are buried in debt, and their sales are low (especially in the US). What did they do wrong? What can they do to turn it around? Let's talk about it.

Unrelated - You are the type of person who inspired me as a nerdy school kid. I'm saddened by all of the excellent teachers that weren't appreciated enough by their administrators. I have no doubt that you, Jen, were a great teacher and you left positive impact on many children. More than you know.
Love and light to all teachers! And us all here today. 💙

For me I have decided that “nostalgia” is not a great reason to buy a makeup product regardless of quality. I would rather buy a coffee mug, T-shirt, artwork or non consumable item that doesn’t expire as an investment into nostalgia or collaboration. Also as far as makeup … don’t we have it all? I think people are realizing that packaging isn’t a reason to buy products.

The thing with Makeup Revolution is that back in the day when they came out, affordable shadows were so hard to come by, especially colourful ones, so they filled a gap in the market and it felt special even though the quality wasn't the best but compared to the other brands around at the time, it seemed better. Now there are so many brands doing great affordable products, even the bigger brands have caught up in quality and so now their lack of quality really shows and nothing separates them from everyone else

I’ll be honest I’m buying Colour Pop now. Made in California where I live and cheap, good quality. MR isn’t cutting it. $15 palette I buy CP everytime.

On the income thing - makes total sense that people with more disposable income are buying the majority of makeup right now. I just also want to say that I’m privileged to be in that higher bracket - and I still am only buying what I need nowadays. Now am I buying the high end bronzer that I know I like and has become a staple? Yes, I’m not switching to Revolution. But am I trying a new bronzer just to see if I like it better? Nope. One good bronzer I know works is good for me until it runs out nowadays. Too much uncertainty - and higher prices elsewhere to use the money on.

Really good chat today!

I'm only a few minutes in to the video, but the reason I've never purchase Makeup Revolution is that they have a really bad rep in the beauty community for being low quality products. If they want to recover from that (as you mentioned Elf did- either here or in WUIM) they need to up their quality and send out some PR so that they rehab their image.

That Kylie product could be given to me for free and make me look like a rock star and I will never purchase it or wear it. NEVER.

I will not watch content about the Kardashians/Jenners. Much less ever buy their stuff to support them.

I have one Makeup Revolution product, and I keep it out of guilt because my best friend bought it for me. I’ve never even worn it out of the house though because I hate every look I get with the pallet. Everything just becomes muddy and creases immediately on my lids.

kylie cos always initially looked like elevated children's makeup to me. the early reviews seemed to confirm my suspicions. tho, reviewers have also said KC has improved in quality, i don't really have any intentions to buy it. i guess that could change in the future. it would have to be something incredible. on the other hand, i was on board with kkw beauty because it seemed as if mario, an experienced and respected makeup artist was consulting on product development and testing, but i could be wrong. i did buy a contour palette and a single contour powder and was pleased with both items. they just blended so well. i wasn't really impressed with the highlight powders, but was generally happy with my purchases.

My experience of Revolution (and have tried most brands) is that they're not that bad especially when it comes to price point, they are also registered cruelty-free that has more weight than self-claims by many other brands, and have increased vegan products. In the UK, their make-up is accessible to those not earning much, like those younger and/or who don't want or can't afford to spend a lot on makeup. There are some duds, but I wouldn't say most of the quality is so bad you can't wear it, and some are nicely pigmented shadows. They have quite a lot of good face products too. They probably don't live up to the makeup community standards given our passion and will to pay more for that, but they have other consumers with different needs. The level of products they release probably exacerbate it.

I have three eyeshadow pallets from Makeup Revolution and they are all good. So I never understood why people say it's all bad quality 🤷‍♀

Don’t know if this was mentioned in live chat but didn’t Makeup Revolution buy BH Cosmetics? Which could explain their debt problem as well, but would also mean they have access to BH’s great eyeshadow formula they could use to up their own quality.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I have three formulas of their foundation, a highlighter, and the clicky highlight stick. They are ALL fabulous!!! Their eye shadow palettes in the tin packaging are incredible!!! My daughter swears by their victim C dark circle cream. I've really liked all of the skincare I've I guess we're just lucky??? Great live chat today!! Mad love to all!! ✌🏼💚🙏🏼

I just started using Makeup Revolution Setting Spray and love it. If they go out of business, I don't know where I'll find the Setting spray with Itty bitty sparkles in it. Not really visible to the naked eye but they brighten your face! I also live in Maryland and welcome the cooler weather!

I feel like there’s just better quality options at Makeup Revolution’s price point. Wet n wild, elf, essence, hard candy, pro fusion etc. As a consumer the sub brands also confuse me, how do I know which sub brand is better or is right for my needs?? But regardless, Makeup Revolution needs to improve their eyeshadow formula. I end up loving the looks I get from my Matrix and Simpsons palettes, but it takes some time to work with them.

As far as Kylie and the Kardashians in general, I don’t support those culture vultures. So I have zero interest in their products and I definitely don’t click on videos if they’re in the thumbnail 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t care if that lipgloss has 24k gold in it that makes your lips look like a goddess, I will not support the Kardashians. Manny has a great lipgloss.

When Makeup Revolution first came out there was some great stuff but then the copying and putting money into packaging vs quality lost me. I couldn't care less about amazing packaging verses having a product that is a fantastic product in mediocre packaging. I care about the part of it that has a job to do, cosmetics, skincare or otherwise.

After the Manny thing any remaining reputation MR had was wiped away for me and it was the last straw. When you compare them to brands that have fallen in reputation I'd look to the likes of JSC. The reason he isn't falling completely is because he might be horrendous and the brand does have a lot of dings but his product that I have owned have performed amazingly. It really is a matter of if it performs it survives. I think even people who look for dupes or lower price ranges still want performance. People know they aren't going to get a Natasha Denona quality from drugstore, but there it shouldn't be absolute crap.
