I actually really appreciate the part about letting the people next to you know they can talk to you if they want.
I travel once a year (on bus, though) and ever since I started doing it on my own and not with my parents, I always got curious about the now open empty seat that either of my parents would normally occupy. The problem is... no one takes that seat... ever. Every bus trip I remember taking was just me alone doing nothing, and the only two times it didn't happen, the first it was a girl who had no intention of making any kind of conversation (which is absolutely fine, of course. Just dissapointing... and slighty uncomfortable), and the second was the completely opposite. It was an old lady that would never run out of conversation topics, and she was incredibly nice too, so that one was good
