Mary Lou Williams embodies the history of the blues and jazz in the world. She played with many of the greats. Read her Wiki article to get some sense of how important she was. In 1981, I was in a record store in Cape Cod when I learned that she had passed into that big 52nd St in the sky.

Thanks Sliptrail, I need to listen to more of her recordings. I particularly like her contrapuntal syncopated slip timing, drum machines don't do that do they?
